Dirty little tiger!

...to Duxford! (Here's a copy of a post I put up on Simflight)

...you can expect a bit of grot.

Having repainted the Tiger Moth in New Zealand the other day, I flew on over to Duxford... well, Thanks to FS9, one can cheat a wee bit, otherwise it'd have been at least 120 flying hours Laughing

Anyway, the Mount Cook flying taxi got lost and ended up in Duxford. Here she is doing a lap of honour around the 'drome and generally annoying AI traffic that wants to get away.

For those who are interested, each area of dirt and oil and soot is individually layered so I can chop and change per paint. The various tears in the canvas were stitched up en route and the brake fluid leak happened on take off on the last leg to Duxford. A bit messy and we may have a bit of a problem stopping. I will need the grass strip and heave back on the elevator to dig the tail skid in...

(Ackshually, she's still surprisingly clean after 12000 miles...)

(I don't know - do Tigers have brakes? If not, I have modified mine and obviously forgotten to put the resevoir cap on or tighten a hydraulic union somewhere   )

Several landings on damp grass fields have left their mark:

Not really that much dirt, just a hint to break things up. There's a neat tear in the fabric that has been sewn up - needed to get into the rear fuselage in a hurry to get at my stash of "goodies" before the customs men came over...:

Houston - no, sorry, Duxford - we have a problem! Red wet stuff leaking out from behind the engine cowling.

Go around, go around! That's what comes from arriving during the middle of a flying display!

Hmmm.... Duxford is rather busy this morning! (If you look up, you can see the swift repair job to the underside of the upper wing - bird strike over the channel!

Oh well, stiill got enough fuel to do this orbit... let's have a look and see who's all down on the ground. Mitchell, Mosquito, Zero, Veechee Deechee, Valiant (or Victor), Dragon and many more - what a frame rate hit!

Excellent shots, and even better with the little story.

ZK-BRC looks much better with the realistic wear and tear, terrifc job on that!

BTW, where do you get that Duxford scenery? I don't remember seeing it on avsim before because I hunted for some a while ago after I visited the airfield in real life.

Excellent question Trolly - where exactly did that great looking Duxford come from? I want it!!!

Great pics and story Chris, but I must apologise as I was drooling more over the static displays than the Tiger!

Hmm, strange that you can't find the Duxford link, I found it via the NZFF forum... now where was it? Oh, I was looking for freeware extras for Wanaka, some of them need the Duxford static objects and AI and ther was a link to a Frnch (?!) site that is hosting that DL.

I am at work in my lunchbreak right now, I'll have a look later.

Yep, I found the Duxford stuff listed in the readme from "Wanaka001.zip" - which is an Avsim download.

Here's the bllurb:

(cut and paste)

You'll need to install some AI aircraft and do a bit of copy and paste from this package, and you'll be ready to go.

Without further ado, then, download and install:

Aircraft (required):
1. Warbirds DC-3: nz_warbirds_dc3_v2.zip (avsim.com)
2. Pionair charter flight DC-3: pionadc3.zip (flightsim.com)
3. Lockheed C-130 RNZAF: greyc130.zip (flightsim.com)
4. P3-C Orion RNZAF: p3_nz_nc.zip (flightsim.com)
5. Duxford Warbird AI http://www.projets.fsfrance.com/Duxford ... AI_en.html
"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦

Aircraft (recommended For AI spotting)
6. Mobile Tower rcmct641.zip rcmct642.zip (flightsim.com)
7. Modified tug push_tug.zip (flightsim.com)
Having satisfied the author's copyright requirement, you can now install and use the Wanaka Wheels included with this package. This is the best way to get around the Air Show, as you will have all the necessary credentials. It uses gauges and bits from both of the above packages. Simply copy the Wanaka Wheels folder into your aircraft folder, it will show up in the aircraft selection dialogue as, erm, Wanaka Wheels.

All this Duxford stuff...the old lady needs home scenery to display properly.
Nice paint, Chris, even if the real owners would never allow theirs to look as shabby as that. Brake fluid, yet!

Love the panel and flapping scarf bit.
The model may not be 100% accurate in nose bits, but I've had an Aussie Tiger in my hanger for ever, now glad of the Kiwi one.
You need Mike Hambly's sound set to get the real feel.
Wonder if I shouldn't enter this in the Screenshot Contest?
Yeah...

I was just flying BRC around Mount Cook and may I agree with Charl by saying she looks fantastic, and is ever so nostalgic to fly.

After seeing the great quality of your paints, I then search 'Chris Brisland' into the avsim library and found your Douglas Bader repaint of the Christian Eagle! DB is my hero- the first aviator I ever looked up to, as my old next door neighbour was his personal tailor back in England, and I received a signed copy of his autobiography 'Reach for the Sky'... anyway, I downloaded your repaint and took the Eagle up for a spin round Mount Cook after landing the Moth and loved it!

Not only does the paint look great but the model flys fantastically, just like the Pitts, and looks almost like a clone of it! If your offer to paint the Eagle in a MAD scheme still stands, I would love to see it now ;)
