Red Baron Entertainment's new plane

Christian Stock of Red Baron Entertainment asked me for a new skin for a plane...

First of all - "What plane?" That was a trial in itself. I tried the DH Comet, but unfortunately MS have made that plane on a single skin and too many bits on one single skin made the work nigh on improbable, nay - impossible.

In the end, we went for the JU 52 by O. Fischer from junkers-52.de (by the way - he has done a great Buecker Jungmann too)

Then there was a whole lot of "What do you prefer: plain engine cowlings, white fronted ones, or cowlings with pinstripes?"

Following that, the next problem was the layout of the cowls. For want of a choice, I chose to do the cowling stripes aligned horizontally - in line with the aircraft y axis - as opposed to tapering parallel to the wing leading edges.

In the end, I did all three variants and...

...here's the results - enjoy!

And now here's just a few more - ad hoc:

WOW! Who'da known a humble old Tante Ju could look so good? Chris, you've stunned me again! Beautiful work, and a great flagship!

One quick question - how long does it take for you, typically, to do a single repaint?

Looks like these too planes can't fly online together at the same time- might confuse ATC ;)

What scenery was used for the screenies- again I don't reconise it?

When it is available for download, please post a link by the way.

How long does it take? I started this one on Thursday night - on a different plane first - Christian would have preferred the Default DeHavilland Comet, but that doesn't work with the ideas we were having (Only one side skin - mirrored for the opposite side, text would be a problem). Then we thought about planes again - could have done a Dragon Rapide, but then we went for the Tante JU.

I had to make a paintkit myself for this one, that took almost the best part of a day - removing the colours but keeping the corrugation in place.

In manhours, this skin has probably cost arount 25 - 30

Some I can do in an evening - plain colours, no brushwork needed - and some (that Piper Cheyenne for instance) are spread over a month. A lot depends on the plane and the paintkit, a lot on the research and then some is just plain waiting for the real world owners to come back with permission and info.

What scenery? :o You don't recognise the default SeaTac? ;) :D Oh, of course - but then I wouldn't recognise Wellington if you slapped me with a rubber boot :D

The only thing different on my Seattle is that I have FS Genesis meshes installed and all sliders maxed.

I can't wait to try the JU on FSX though - "Real" corrugations possibly?
