Well bless your cotton socks guys! I had a nice complimentary message from Charl - it seems my Piper Cheyenne skin has made it round the word already ;)

I'm a Brit, work for Airbus and live in Germany - when I get time from my job to actually be home...

In my free time I like to relax in the simulator and it is here that I have found my present interest - I love repainting these darned planes! So much so that it can be obsessive - all that figuring out how and why a model builder decided to build his plane "just so" and not "my way" :P

The Hawke's Bay Helicopter Rescue Service paint that caught Charl's eye was a bit of fun and my first skin for the Aerosoft Piper PA 31T Cheyenne. That is one heck of a paint kit folks - 14 or 15 skins to play with... Well I found the "Spirit of Hawke's Bay" on airliners.net and fell in love with her - OK, the real world plane is a Piper Navajo - i.e. piston engined - but I gave the folks a free "upgrade".

I got in touch with the Hawke's Bay people a couple of weeks ago, got their permission and have had their blessings on my paint - even though it isn't quite real. I also added the other HB sponsors to "my" plane with their permission. Just to add som colour.

If you want to know what I do - visit my website (linked image below) and/or visit avsim.com and do a search in the file library for "chris brisland"

Cut and past from my mail to Charl:

You guys point me at an attractive plane and if I have the model, I'll paint it.

Just don't, whatever you do, ask me to do one with "Taumatawhakatangihangumatrisistischmutukilarebitrebufantiengakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu-Nukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu"Â￾ pasted on the sides J

Hi, finally got around to introducing myself.

I'm Ian. In PNth.
I work in IT as a Test Analyst so spend my days making Software Developers lives a misery. One of them is responsible for sparking my interest in FS so he's got payback by making me have lots of late nights.

Fairly new to Flight Sim and enjoying it all. I started with Flight Unlimited 2 and then FU3. Only recently moved to look around FS9. Much of it's still a mystery but thanks to many helpful folks I'm learning all the time.

As many of you will already know I'm a wanna be Rotorhead. I also enjoy flying around the mountains in the Piper Cub or a Bellanca. Bush strips are my thing rather than the heavy metal.

Though my work PC would have many of you drooling over your screens my home PC in contrast is very low spec. P3 1Ghz with 512mb Ram and a 64mb Gcard. This should be changing hopefully in the not too distant future (wife and kids willing).

To those who have already answered my questions thanks for putting up with another Newbie and Trolly thanks for filling a big hole in MSFS.

Chris you popped up quickly! Welcome, I hope to post a somewhat re-organised GNZ LAP listing, then for sure we'll tap you for a paint or two.
We'll even help you out with Taumatawhakatangihangumatrisistischmutukilarebitrebufantiengakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoro nukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu-Nukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu"
It starts at the tip of the nose, goes over the wing round the tail back up the other side, and the last u sits on the radome, no worries mate ;)

Howdy,

actually missed this thread (I guess I really should pay more attention to the 'Stickies') before posting in some of the other forums :)

Name is Jared, Live in Auckland. But as they say, you can take the boy out of the town, but you can't take the town out of the boy. Born/Bred in Levin before escaping to the Metropolis of Palmerston North for a 4 year degree that took 5 1/2 :)

Luckily[1], the 1/2 was when they decided to fully fund aviation courses under the Student Loan scheme so I signed up for the brand new "Introduction to Aviation" course at Massey School of Aviation and got my 30 hours of flying.[2]

Unfortunately, I then moved to AKL, got a job that paid more money than I had ever seen (remember, recent uni grad, so that actually means it was more than the dole). Unfortunately, Auckland is just a tad bit more expensive than PMR, so I was pretty much grounded.

Just as my finances sorted themselves and I started getting back into flying (did my ground theory and 2 flights at AFS), I got shipped to a small place in Oz, called Port Macquarie... for 3 months... that become 21.

Managed to do some flights at the local aero club... then they went bust! Is god trying to tell me something????

Finally quit that job as I figured living WITH my wife might be a good idea and made it back to AKL, Jan 05, and have been working since (somewhat ironically, considering my love for flying) for a container shipping line... Maersk. Luckily, they pay well, and my mortgage is now under control so I'm looking at getting back into flying again and picked up FS2004 to help get 'The Feel' ™ back.

Unfortunately, after installing some nice addons (Freeware 75m mesh, Auckland 2005, Ron Watson's NZAR and some of his Manukau buildings) and then cranking the graphics settings to MAX[3], my PC up and died[4]...

Fortunately, the 'Finacial Controller'[5] has Ok'd an upgrade, so I'm gonna blow... err I mean invest some money in a nice AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core system... yeah baby!

What she doesnt know is that I just won an Ebay auction for a CH Yoke and Rudder pedals set :) Now I just have to be patient and wait 4-6 weeks for the surface post to arrive :(

Well, I think I qualify for the longest intro, so I will stop yabbering and go back to wondering if this work laptop will run FS2004... :ph43r:

cheers,
HCP

[1] Well, maybe not for my student loan balance

[2] Just my luck that the next year they made it a full year course, 2 part course that took you all the way to PPL :(

[3] I wanted to see the 'purty pictures' :)

[4] Personally, I think FS2004 killed it... Bloody microsoft products :P

Well I'm Chris from wellington, am 16 and currently attending Onslow College.

I got started with fs when i one year received fs2002 for christmas and have been flightsiming ever since. was only by coincidence that i met somebody who also mentioned having fs who pointed me in the direction of VAs and addons.

I have always had an interest for planes and aviation and unlike some here who said they did a lot of travelling and were around planes a lot I am the opposite. I first travelled on a plane when I was 10 and whenever we go on holiday anywhere in new zealand we just drive. I feel that this lack of flying in my life only fuelled my thirst for it. I also do a lot of sailing and also some coaching of sailing and this is a possible but unlikely career path for me.

I am sure that I will end up doing something aviation related(hopefully pilot) but if for some unforseen medical reason i cannot I think Aircraft maintenance engineering is the way for me.

Well that's about all that I can think of for now.

Chris

Hi all,
My name is Neil and at present I am living in a small town called Waihi. My main interest in flying started as a member of the Hawera flying club where I learnt to fly the cessena 150,this was back in 1963.Hawera at that time had the only air ambulance aircraft in the whole of Taranaki at that time which was a cessena 172,and which I later got to fly.I got my pilots licence after 41 hours of flying and then went for my twin engine rating.after 257 hours I finally got my commercial licence. My dream was to be a topdressing pilot, and I was right on track. To this day, without exception, the best aircraft I ever flew was the DC3,she could carry 5ton of fert and was an absolute joy to fly.The fletcher wasnt bad either, but the The old DC3 was my favourite. My flying career stopped for two reasons. One,I got married, that didn,t stop me at that time but the second one did. When I went for my medical checkup I was told that my heart had an irregular beat. One thing lead to another and I ended up becoming a dairy farmer. My flying days were over.I Thought.I got my first computer in1981,an Atari, and I learnt how to use it.Like others,I graduated to the IBM compatables, and that was when I first took notice of flightsim.I read the blurb sheets and thought,so what.Big deal.I waited and watched. Its now 2002 and I had another look and thought Hmmm. And then I saw my baby. There she was in NAC livery, and I just had to have her.I,m not into jets, just prop aircraft,Flightsim has been a godsend to me,but the biggest godsend has been all of the hard working guys who have done the scenery, the repaints, the things that make NZ look alive. From me to you all I have just one thing to say......................THANK YOU
gokanru

Well I guess its time I put something here to.

My real name is Stephen , I was born in Feilding in the Manawatu, My father had moved from the RAF to RNZAF hence my basic lifetime interest in all things that fly.

5 years ago I moved to London, England where I now live and work.

My Flight Sim history starts with the grand daddy "Flight Simulator", the very first one, you just can't imagine the wonder of the very early days  , anyway I've followed the FS family (3,4,95,2000,2002,2004)

my other hobby has been Modelling both for CGI and gaming though for some reason Flight sim and Train sim seem to give me problem in the export side though from the interest so far I think thats not going to be a problem anymore.

Heres to the strong community sprirt of NZFF

And really glad you can add to the flying experience in NZ with your modelling skills! :D

Gday all, as usual I'm late, I have been visting this site on a off for a few months and I vote it the freindliest site arround. I'm 48 and live in Australia. (Ex Whangarei) Right at the very top of Queensland in a town called Weipa. Fanaticle simmer and learning to make models. Have posted 5 models in the lat few months and thanks to feed back, much of it from NZ, I am improving.

Cheers marty

Some one please tell my wife 16 hours a day is not to much time to spend on flight sim
