I want to get some AI traffic on my sim now. I think I used to have PAI AI, but before I start downloading packages can anyone point me in the right direction for an easy to use package that will be effective, particularly in NZ?

Charl and Jenks are currently putting together a GA project to fill our skies with real life repaints of prop aircraft! That should be along shortly.

I personally use Ultimate Traffic- payware- but worth it!

There are many freeware D.I.Y packages available too, but I have no clue about using them, sorry!

If you fly online most of the time, AI is disabled anyway- so I am not sure if paying for Ultimate Traffic would be the best option for you.

I've always used PAI and found it is still the easiest (and cheapest!) way to get airline AI on your machine. They also have a growing military AI section.
They have a no-pain installer, and you can scroll through their packages and select any airline you want. I see I currently have 263 airlines installed.
If you're flying into a major airport, I reckon there's nothing like a bit of heavy metal AI to add to the experience.

Of course, Ai is very CPU-intensive. There's nothing like Heathrow on a busy day to turn your sim into a 4fps slideshow. B)

It may still be lurking there somewhere, otherwise I could email it.

Thanks for the info. I just want some AI for those times I may only have a few mins to spare rather than firing it up and logging online. I think I will go with PAI for now, if I remember right it was relatively painless to get operational.

Have to concur with Charl; PAI is virtually the only way to go if you want realistic NZ flightplans/timetable. Currently, am running 33 NZ flightplans (from Air Vanuatu thru to Virgin Blue) which also includes a number of small, regional/local operators.

Also don't pass up the chance to read the help fles and forums at Project AI. Full of lots of useful information and help for using and installing AI.

Yea PAI is a good choice, ran quite well on my old machine so shouldn't affect your frames too much.

I use Traffic 2004, but this is not really strong for our region. Searching around and I saw the following download on www.flyawaysimulation.com which might be useful. No idea how easy it is to use though, but there is one way to find out......

FS2004 Traffic Changer V610

Traffic changer is a tool to simplify AI for FS9. The user can make flight plans, compile BGL files (using included TTools) and place the final plans into FS9 using a "group" concept. This is ideal for managing fleets of AI aircraft or for users wanting to easily change AI traffic at a single airport. It installs with the 59 default AI aircraft available that are already in FS9, 5,500 of the most common airports and a sample flight plan. A tour makes it very easy to get started. Take control of AI with traffic changer. Freeware, complete installer. Requires VB5 runtimes (which almost everyone already has.) Tested only on XP and Win 2000 ... Approx. 2 Megabyte in size. Traffic changer 610 is a another big upgrade for traffic changer 601 or earlier with a new flight plan merge utility, multiuse flight plan editor, improved plan creator and better reporting of already FS9 filed plans. Usual (now rare) bug fixes and new documentation. I've downloaded every version of this software so far.
It looked perfect for the Great NZ GA Project, which is zone-centric.
Thus far I have failed to get any of the versions to perform.
Maybe it's just me, and I'd love to see a post about what I might be doing wrong.
I'd hate to think that this is a beta being debugged by an unsuspecting user group on the freeware circuit, before being offered as payware...

The guys at VOZ are currently putting together an AI pack that includes NZ. All I can say is that it looks awesome and best of all it's going to be freeware. At the first cut not everything will make it in (no Mt Cook, Origin Pacific, etc), but all of that is planned in the future...

BTW, does anyone have those minor airlines installed (schedules and paints are at ProjectAI, but I didn't manage to install them correctly)? Any hints?

Do you mean DustEagle's NZ FP Pack? Yep. Have them installed and working properly, AFAIK (that is, with the exception of Stewart Island/Southern Air. I wish to use Jon Murchison's repaint, but he's taken it down from ARNZ and unable to re-locate it).

I tried the origin pacific schedules and liveries, but I don't think I got it working quite right (couldn't find any origin pacific aircraft). Is it as easy as simply running the schedules through ttools, and then unzipping aircraft and liveries? Or is there more to it?

I'm a complete newbie when it comes to AI, believe it or not, I was still living in the world of 'Landmark Airlines', etc until I installed the VOZ AI pack. Time to leave the middle ages...

Howdy Christian,

origin_pacific_ai_traffic_2006.zip is the latest Origin flightplans available from AvSim.

This pack contains two PAI Jetstreams (31 & 41) in OP livery and a traffic .bgl. Both AC and traffic file come as .exe files, so I simply pointed them at my .tmp folder, unzipped, and manually moved the two ac directly to my FS Aircraft folder and the traffic file to Scenery/World/Scenery. Works for me.

As for Mt. Cook, found them in the latest "Air New Zealand Group Winter 2005/2006". This is by "Perficad", available from Avsim or www.carledwards.eu.com.

AC needed for the Mt. Cook schedule is the "ATR-72-500 Air New Zealand Link" and I've found that the best available is the ARNZ version by Jon Murchison (all Jon's ac work a treat if one uses Nick Needham's LightFix Version 2, this replaces the hideous bulbous FS2000 navigation lights).

Do remember though, it is imperative that the title of the AC (found at the top of the aircraft.cfg file) matches that of the AC given in the traffic aircraft .txt file. If it isn't, then you get an AI no-show. (Personally, I change the traffic aircraft.txt file to be the same as the title in the aircraft.cfg file. YMMV, of course.)

Hot on the heels of the GNZ GA AI Project will come AI for the 3rd-tier airlines.
I've just received some flightplams from Nunner for Sunair which will be kept safe until we have the HTAI Pipers painted.

Sounds like you have a handle on this.
I wonder if you'd be willing to post possible download links and resources for repaints/flightplans one could use for this project?

I wonder if HTAI have pulled the freeware in anticipation of the payware release?
If you find other NZ AI bits of interest, perhaps you could edit your post, that way it'll all be under the same roof?
