Orbiter 2006

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby Jimmy » Fri Jun 23, 2006 8:58 pm

I just downloaded orbiter 2006 and am learning how it all works.
Orbiter is a space simulator .

About Orbiter
ORBITER is a free flight simulator that goes beyond the confines of Earth's atmosphere. Launch the Space Shuttle from Kennedy Space Center to deploy a satellite, rendezvous with the International Space Station or take the futuristic Delta-glider for a tour through the solar system - the choice is yours.
But make no mistake - ORBITER is not a space shooter. The emphasis is firmly on realism, and the learning curve can be steep. Be prepared to invest some time and effort to brush up on your orbital mechanics background. A good starting point is JPL's Basics of Space Flight.

you can dowload from this site......

Theres also hi res planet textures you can get aswell.
I tried doing a flight launching from cape canaveral and docking to the iss.
I managed to follow all the procedures up out of the atmosphere but then i got lost lol space is a big place

I once tried Orbiter.

I couldn't understand what the heck to do. Maybe I will try installing it again after I finish my coarse in physics at the end of the year. ;)

When i saw the 130 page manaul i considerd not even starting it lol but i think once i just flew and explored it all it came to me prety fast. There are simple flights you can do and it is a realy easy way to learn things.

I once tried Orbiter.

was that the 2006 realese? This one might be a bit more user freindly.
Im figuring it out slowy.
but ill get sick of it soon and delete it like all the other free sims iv tried lol

I like the MFD's ..well the bits i understand lol
the "surface mode" is good. At least its familar.

I find doing the "checklist" missions are good. when it loads up press alt F1 and it has a step by step guide for the whole flight! I learn't alot in ust one flight ,even thow i got lost lol
