Deadly - low but not slow. I have done it this night in FS 2004 for one long hour. With Mach 0.82 below 1.500 ft without any autopilot.
I never want to do it in reality.

Whoops! My bad ... here is a real Mig 19 (from the same excellent freeware package though, by Yan Tao) and this is more in keeping with the original "Soviets are coming" thread topic. Yes, I read that the early versions of the 19 were not popular with users, but the USAF in Vietnam regarded them as a more dangerous opponent than the 21.

North Vietnamese operated the Mig19 during the Vietnam conflict and using the 21 and 17 , the 21s pilot were primarily trained for intercept via ground controller 'GCI'( more reason not popular with pilots ) , the 19 was in class off its own being very manuovrable , and showed with earlier 17 ( small /light ) , was the Mig 17 that was the headache for the F4 pilots , in fact it was a dogfight with a phantom and a mig17 that in a sence created TOPGUN ! , due to pilot skill from both sides , making it the most dynamic jet to jet dogfight known during the war .
Another fighter from the era , and known as the SALE OF THE CENTURY , The western counterpart the : LOCKHEED F-104 Starfighter

Maybe the best Mig of all judged by combat stats-it was basically an uprated 15, really an early 50s aircraft, but it shot down far more US fighters than the 19 or 21. Even the ground crews liked them best- they could remove the whole rear of the aircraft to access the engine.
Heres a 17 over Dunedin-and thanks for the superb photoscenery package Ian, which my screenshots dont do justice to. On my creaky old set-up I cant seem to get FS 2004 screenies as sharp as the ones I used to get in FS 2002, time for an upgrade...
Been lurking forever but I couldn't resist this thread-may it run and run!Last edited by hugh on Tue Nov 06, 2007 8:50 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Was that the 2-seater in the Wanaka airshow? The Mig 17C is by Kazunori Ito. Heres the Vietnamese version :Last edited by hugh on Tue Nov 06, 2007 8:51 pm, edited 1 time in total.
