Dash8 virtualcol repaints anyone?

Postby deeknow » Sun Apr 02, 2023 1:28 pm

This is a bit of a blast from the past I know, but does anyone still have, or ever buy, the VirtualCol Dash8 pack for FSX an P3D? I see it even attracted the attention of Wing Commander Ian back when it was released

If you still have it around sing out if you'd like a copy of the following, I knocked it up this morning for the livery worn by ZK-NEZ circa '94

Image

Will prolly do another one for it's later livery when it was resprayed and renamed "City of Hamilton" (see this Aussie-Airliners post)

Reason I was inspired to do it was had a video pop up in my YouTube feed this morning about the sad crash of Ansett NZ Flight 703 (ZK-NEY) back in 1995. Chose another aircraft to repaint in this case

deeknow dude .... would you consider a repaint of the Just Flight DC-8 into the old ANZ Cargo scheme ?
The right model is included in the package. I've got one from HJG , but doubt it will work in P3D ... but almost all FSX paints work for me.

Nice work on the Dash btw

Will take a squiz Marty, think I still have an installer for the 50-70 series, bought it some time back but never really flew it. Does it work OK in v5 do you know? DM me some links to the exact year/livery

PS - wee update to the Dash, fixed the tail leading edge boot position and moved the tail logos into the right spot and size, also added a wee full-stop circle at the end of the "New Zealand ." string on the nose. Cant add the two "Z" chars that appear above the eye-brows coz the textures really get distorted in that area, would take ages to get it right.

Righto, another one out of the paint-shop. This time the slightly later "Starmark" livery worn by ZK-NEZ from '95, with its IRL name of "City of Hamilton" parked up at .. well.. you know .... Hamiton

Boarding about to commence, forgot the model has a stewardess (can just see her lurking in the shadows).

OK.. last one for the day. Here's the Newmans livery the Dash8s wore briefly. Need to tweak the rego size/font a bit but it's pretty close to done. The livery LOOKS simple but the Newmans Stallion logo I had to hand draw as a vector thing by tracing a low res photo, that took some time. You may notice I have "Ansett Newmans" as a title under the cockpit, they also wore "Ansett New Zealand" variously.

Steve has an excellent as usual blog post on the Newman's branded fleet and the routes they operated on up and down the country. Do check it out...

I borrowed a pic from him (will check on permissions ASAP) as a sim-vs-real, not quite up to the standard of the MSFS stuff that's been popping up lately of course

Here's another pic of the logo etc

I own latest version of that. But your planes look different from mine. I am guessing you have version 1 and I have version 2 or whatever is latest.

Nice display of many repaints and great history explanation on the use of Dash 8 planes by New Zealand.

Don't know what you have Aharon but this is the latest version, see the pics here and compare..

The modelling isn't great to be fair, and nowhere near as good as the ancient Dash8 Q300 from Majestic all those years ago, but the VirtualCol is the only thing with gauges that work in P3D v5

Well if you are referring to exterior appearance of the planes, I would say that exterior appearance of the planes is SUPERB only only only for Dash 8-100, -200, and -300 which is pure fun and joy to fly as you can see from proof of my screenshots that you had viewed. The exterior appearance of Dash 8-400 is terrible which is no match for better quality but freeware Dreamwings Dash 8-400. I have no idea why but I suspect that VirtualCol lumped much older model Dash 8-400 with much newer models Dash 8-100/200/300 to create second version of Dash package.

When do you plan to upload all your New Zealand themed repaints for those planes?

All three liveries should be available for download now @ flightsim.com - first time I've uploaded a repaint in ages, be interested to know from anyone if you can see my profile following and are actually able to download one of these

Matzel tov!! According to flightsim records, the last time you uploaded a repaint was on June 9, 2011 for Kiwi 757 repaint!!

Hope you will upload the yellow 733F repaint too.
