Puzzlement Over One NZ Airport

Postby Aharon » Tue Jun 22, 2021 2:38 am

Shalom and greetings all my pals,

For use of FSX Deluxe with SP1 and SP2, I have many many many GREAT and HIGH QUAlITY freeware airport sceneries for New Zealand especially small NZ airports. I also have few GREAT and HIGH QUAlITY payware airport sceneries for the same country.

What puzzles me and baffles me is that there is no freeware or payware scenery for NZPM North Palmerston airport scenery for use of FSX.

Why is that?? I thought NZPM is very important airport in terms of being EIGHTH busiest airport in New Zealand and is a major cargo or freight hub. So why is there no FSX scenery for that airport? Am I getting message that NZPM is not important airport??

Regards,

Aharon

Its just that no ones bothered to do it - has nothing to do with the importance of the airport..

Yeah, well-overdue, that's for sure. I believe there's an old scenery developer who has recently moved to the lower North Island, only 2 hours drive from Palmerston North, so maybe it'll happen one day. Although not sure about FSX.
I've heard he's keen to start with Hood Aerodrome.

Actually would be keen to see a decent NZPM too since I lived there for a few years and Dad got his pilots license there.

Orbx FTX NZ New Zealand North Island Payware Product Features from the NZ North Island User Guide.

"The FTX NZNI landscape fully captures this visual diversity. The custom-built ground textures and landclass encompass the extensive range of orchards, vineyards, grazing and cropping agriculture seen across the island. Also featured are the vast forestry plantations around Kaingaroa, the barren alpine country of Tongariro National Park, the native kauri forests of the sub-tropical north, and all the town and city centers of human habitation. The scenery further includes the northern-most Three Kings Islands, the volcanic White Island in the Bay or Plenty, and the Great Barrier Island in the Hauraki Gulf. The landclass textures are drawn from aerial and satellite photography of New Zealand and hand placed so as to accurately render this environment.

To further enhance the visual delights of flying over New Zealand’s North Island, we have developed eleven areas of photo-real scenery. These are notable, picturesque geological formations and man-made centres of urban activity, created in such a way that they seamlessly nestle among the FTX landclass. You can fly the length and breadth of the North Island to discover the volcanic mountain peaks of Mount Egmont, Mount Tarawera, Mount Ruapehu and Mount Ngauruhoe, the water ways of Tauranga Harbour, Great Exhibition Bay and Manakau Harbour, the city centres of Wellington and Auckland, the geothermal parks of Rotorua, the marsh lands of the Kopuatai Peat Dome, and the dunes of Ahipara Bay – all visually stunning and real-world accurate.

Using similarGIS technology, the product includes an integrated network of major roads, freeways, bridges, tunnels and moving vehicle traffic, as well as accurate shorelines, rivers, pipelines, streams and beaches. When down low and slow, you’ll also see a world full of NZ buildings and NZ trees. Taking the lead in pushing the boundaries of what FSX can offer, we’ve developed new technology making custom autogen tree models and textures. We have also modeled houses, farm facilities, factories and office blocks drawn from an extensive portfolio of photos of New Zealand’s natural and built environments. Another first is the inclusion of animated hot-air balloon AI. The balloons take off and land at actual ballooning locations across the island. Another first!

The region pack further models most of the aeronautical hazards, obstacles and cultural features mapped in the VFR visual navigation charts for the North Island. This includes towers, power lines, bridges, golf courses, dams, lighthouses, power stations, geothermal plants, prominent buildings, race courses, radar facilities and wind farms –all the visual aids for VFR flying. There’s 72 ICAO ‘registered’ airports to land at. The airports have been enhanced with the accurate placement of hangers and facilities, terrain adjustments and scheduling of GA traffic to closely match their real-world counterparts. The airports are full of people, vehicles, and planes and clutter making them busy locations to land and take off from. There are also 265 unregistered airfields to discover – all real-world back-country strips amongst the farm land and bush."

Thanks for tips on freeware and payware NZNP sceneries. Although I have many payware ORBX airport sceneries and one region base package, I will avoid buying Orbx sceneries for anything in North and South Islands of New Zealand because I prefer to cater business to local New Zealand software companies owned by members of NZFF forums who make freeware and payware sceneries and ground textures.

Once again, thanks to all for kind answers especially unusual extensive information with cool hyperlinks by Radar88

NZPM will be done at some point for MFS2020. NZA Simulations have discussed it being on the road map(could say that about any regional airport though), just not sure how far down the road quite yet. However, considering it is a busy training airport it will probably be prioritized over those which are not.

I did not know that NZPM is a busy training airport. I thought it is busy local cargo airport!!! Nice of you to do for MS2020. I wish somebody would do for FSX.

And my apologies for my three day late reply. I did not notice your reply. Sorry.
