I didn't want to crash Deane's bio topic, but I found this clip still available on YouTube - what an amazing resource, do they not ever throw anything away??

The Huey was a Biggie.
I probably spent more flightsim time in that, than any other model.

Not discounting any of his other major contributions to flightsimming, that model in FS9 got me into helos; I could spend an hour just throwing it around.

Thanks Doug, I saw an Iroquois do wingovers at Wanaka one year and never gave up breaking Deane's model until I got it right! Looking at the clip after all this time, it's a bit mushy I shoulda sprung for the BO105 maybe

Nice one Charl !! I must say I spent many hours doing the same. In the early stages I spent most of the time performing undefined aerobatic maneuvers or scraping myself off the ground !!
Little did I know how this experience in co-ordination and learning would play out. In 2007 I got to do several flights in the LH seat of the real deal and managed a reasonably steady hover and hover taxi on the third flight with only about 15 - 20 mins of total stick time! The only time I have ever flown a real chopper.

Well I would've given a left, errr, anyway what a privileged position you were in, to have access to all that stuff for work and play!
I am thinking an authentic Mosquito for MSFS 2020 would probably take up a whole winter of evenings... wonder where one would get hold of all the information for such a model???

I too loved flying Dean's Iroquois and also the one that Jordan (someone) had on Hovercontrol. The FU24 Fletcher was great too.
Flying a heli seems very much like balancing one ball on top of another. A blend of chaos theory and Newtons laws.
I did get a few opportunities to control a Bell Jet Ranger. operated by a mate. It was relatively easy in normal forward flight but hovering became an aviation rodeo display.
After it being suggested that I just think about moving the cyclic rather than actually moving it things improved greatly. Then of course we had to deal with the yaw and collective axis'.
Flying radio controlled helis was another challenge but made easier after having a bit of real world knowledge and a good RC simulator program.

I hear you!! In the Huey you only had to think about the cyclic and the direction you wanted to go and you were halfway there! The easiest way to deal with was to rest your forearm on your leg and this reduces arm movements. The collective I found was quite direct and once in the hover did not need much if any movement. The big problem I had was the pedals. You needed to move them far more than I could have imagined. I tried one descent to landing and when transitioning to the hover I could not quite nail it. You needed to kick in a whole heap of pedal as the collective is pulled. Lots of fun though. Would love to have a fly of something smaller to compare.

There is a Mossie coming out for DCS and it looks very good indeed. Be nice to see one in MSFS for sure
