MSFS

Postby Naki » Fri Mar 12, 2021 6:33 pm

I really want to.like this sim but with some recent CTDs I decided to reinstall. Last time it was an exercise that took two weeks to sort. I am now at my wits end trying to install again. All I get is a black screen and CTD. I've been though all sorts of possible solutions. Iam really starting to think MSFS is really a great looking flawed piece of software junk!

Might draw some of the professional complainers away from AFS2 - they're always demanding updates :P :nahnah:

I'm fighting all the way with this sim. It's been over a week now and managed to fully re-download it - at least I think I have. Now it just CTDs when I start it. I'm really losing my patience. I've spent more time trying to download, fix and up date the bloody thing than I have flown it!

Even after the latest update, I didn't experience CTDs so far (yes: none, nothing, no way) and I use tons of addons (including the new chopper). However, you may want to try this one:

Why is it that sims are so much more work that other games?
I got frustrated with P3D many a time, and FSX before that.
Its 2021 and reading of the same problems with MSFS.
...and yet almost without exception my other gams just download, install and run - no messing or farting around.
No wonder simmers are a niche market.
I certainly don't have time in my life to mess around just trying to get something to work: I need to load, play, and leave.
Disappointing that with a 'brand new' sim (I don't believe that), these issues are still there. Won't be getting it anytime soon, so no bother for me I guess! :)

bummer your having so much trouble Naki, I guess it's a sign that it uninstalled itself, saves you the bother :P

for the first time in a long time MSFS has been the most stable sim for me out of all previous plarforms like p3d and FSX, I suspect its coz of my new hardware rig and a totally green fields OS, doesnt help you any but just so ya know some peeps just dont seem to have issues

Just wait with this.
Yes, the thing is stuck, has quirks and the add-on industry throws us like stupid again with the same addons at sometimes outrageous prices. All these major airports that no one needs at the moment because there are no viable add-on airliners, Asobo and add-on manufacturers seem to be blaming each other. I was about to reinstall P3D V4, which I still have lying around. But I decided against it. The MSFS must be seen as a growing project and we must set its our priorities. This also means leaving me, for example, add-ons for the EU cold. There I hardly "fly" so I don't need to put any money there. Aircraft... so far, not much has come of interest to me. Aerosoft's CRJ is probably not what it should be at the moment, I just saw the update list. I will limit the number of aircraft and since I am not such a big Airbus fan, the A220, which also uses the Latvian Air Baltic, will remain my only Airbus.

Looking for another Boeing 757 as i have used this type since FS 2004 and if not a Boeing 737, an aircraft with enough Range for me I didn´t need so much to learn by Zero and i have the upcomming 787 by Quality Wings on the List.
All the other aircraft, let´see One Thing intresting for me is the A2A Rockwell 690, an GA aircraft that is interesting for me. The areas I am slowly building are Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Hawaii, Caribbean, Pacific and the former Soviet Union today Russia Ukraine ... Then I don't drend in desires for addons.
And I put it all in a long-running history. I have time.

What sort of internet speed is required to run MSFS? What would be the minimum connection speed to use it without issues?
What happens if your connection slows down below the minimum? Please dont tell me you get that annoying moving circle in the midlle of the screen :(

Check out the specs here.

And yeah, although I've never seen it myself, I think that some people do see the revolving donut of doom...

Thanks Rob. I have seen the specs, but as we know with these things, real life application can be a different story.
I have a 30 Mbs plan (rural) with about a 5 to 10 Mbs up speed. Depending on local usage it can drop to 10 Mbs down or so at times.
I'm just wondering how this would appear performance wise. Does MSFS limit the streamed resolution on the fly for example?
