Cheers, Marty - somewhere I have written instructions for the IGS approach, including timings. Got them from (or via) an old Jardine Mathesons (I think) website, which also had the Miss Macao repaint for the Cathay Pacific Catalina involved in the hijack.

Places - Lost in Time, a series that looks back on the tale of places and locations that have existing within living memory or photographic record, but are now lost to the pages of history.

Take a gander at the famous Kai Tak International Airport, which was at one point the world's busiest single-runway airport in terms of traffic, and the third busiest airport on earth in terms of passenger numbers. However, while the airport was the gateway to Hong Kong, its constrained location meant it was doomed to failure.

FS9 was the first sim that rendered Kai Tak "properly".
My neighbour, a retired ANZ 747 Captain, showed me the charts and how to use them for the Chequerboard approach - in fact that was my introduction to flying larger simcraft.
At the time I didn't think too much about it, it certainly was entertaining.
But how many simmers have that kind of first - person instruction?

He had great tales to tell about flying in to HK.

I have the 9 Dragons Kai Tak scenery, and that includes heaps of background info, charts, and so on, but I haven't been able to find the stuff I mentioned earlier. It actually gave timings for the various parts of the IGS approach. The section on the IGS beam from the MM to intersecting the ILS beam was critical, which is why it said to start a 48 degree right turn to intercept the ILS beam, several seconds before you reached it. If you ran through the ILS beam, you could expect a sudden loss of terrain clearance.
