My Dad was working at Woolwich Arsenal, on the banks of the River Thames, London, (Munitions Factory), at the start of the war in 1939, and we were getting seriously bombed-out in London.
It was getting so dangerous that Dad managed to get a transfer to Rotherwas Munitions Factory in the city of Hereford.
My Mum and I followed up shortly later, and we all have lived in Hereford, Herefordshire, the Land of Cows and Sheep, ever since.
A wonderful rural county, which I got to love very much!
Mum and Dad died in 1989 at the age of 90 years!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ROF_RotherwasI well remember the Rotherwas explosion in May 1944. I was playing in our garden in the countryside, some 8 Miles away at then time, there was silence for a few seconds, then all the tree tops surrounding the area blew over due to the force of the explosion! I remember it to this very day!
Luckily it was not Dad's work shift that day!
