Another batch.

Image
Volcanoes running down ENB.

Image
The constant threat to Rabaul.

Image
Remains of a KI-21 Sally on the old Rabaul airstrip.

Image
KI-43 Oscar wing, New Guinea Club Rabaul.

Image
P-38? windscreen.

Image
More Oscar. Complete with original markings.

Image
Major earthquake in ENB so we were tasked to go off and look at the villages.

Image

Image
Flying politicians around. Parked up in Mt Hagan waiting for fuel.

Image
Flying supplies to remote villages. This one at least had an airstrip.

Image

Image
Another first time for a helicopter visit to a village.

Image
Airlifting a snake bite victim out of Menyamya.

Image
Back in Mt Hagan.

Image
Spent a couple of days operating out of Tari. Watching MAF do their thing...

Image
The Chateaux la Tari. Chinese construction camp.

Image

Image
Just parked the helicopter in the camp.

Image
This ended up in my room somehow. It sounded like a Hughes 500 flying toward me and when it ran into something, it sounded like somebody hit it with a hammer...

More soon.

It is interesting being in places where all of this stuff happened during the war. There's a B17 on the side of a hill near here but I've never seen it. It's very complete though. Marty, the probe is an HF radio antenna... pain in the rear end as a means of communication let me tell you

I thought it may have been for comms ...thanks for the info.
That B-17 would be fascinating ...are those sites protected at all ...ie war graves etc.

They are actually. Surprisingly, the locals are mostly very respectful of such sites. Obviously things of use get taken away to be recycled into building materials etc.

On another note, we were on the news the other night

Just a few more from the last couple of days.

Image
Boss came and gave me a hand in Tari with the Bell

Image
Flying back towards Mt Hagan

Image
On the wall in the Lae International Hotel... my kind of place!

Image
MEDEVAC into the mountains in some pretty rubbish weather. Another mother with birthing complications so we sort of had to really try to get in...

Image

Image
Village was JUST open... and kind of wet

Image
Luckily there aren't many wires around... I don't know how keen I'd be to do this sort of thing in NZ.
