Borders closed ?

Postby Splitpin » Sat Mar 28, 2020 8:45 pm

I'm just a little concerned about what I'm seeing on Flightradar ....NZ8 off to SFO , ZK-NZM heading to YVR, ANZ 7 coming from SFO , ANZ 1 inbound from lax, and ANZ 29 from Houston.
I hope these inbound flights are bringing Kiwis back to go into Quarantine! and NOT self-isolation.
I don't give a toss about those leaving NZ ....I do fear for the ANZ crews doing the job ....both ways.

They're only bringing Kiwis and their dependents home. I was on AA83 on Friday and there were about 30 people on the 787. Upon arrival we were marched 10 at a time off by armed police (not sure why) and through passport and customs. Virtually everybody on that flight had connections to their homes and weren't allowed to to continue on these. Taken to a hotel in Ellerslie where we were pushed around by some more angry sounding cops and currently holed up here for two weeks. Yesterday we were allowed to go walking around the racecourse although we have to get an escort through the hotel and I can't really be bothered right now. Meals are provided from a set menu and although they aren't the best, they taste alright. The stories about hotel 'guests / prisoners' being let out to go grocery shopping aren't coming from this hotel
Before everyone starts harping on about returning before the lockdown, unless I was streaming NZ TV from the US, the situation and rules changed so rapidly that I thought I was going to be able to get on my flight to Nelson until I arrived.

I was meant to be doing NZ8 to SFO but due to a lingering head cold I had to pull out of it...for obvious reasons.
The flights have been quite full leaving NZ but only a handful of passengers returning. There will be a few flights operating to YVR and then on to Frankfurt. This is a charter arrangement for the German Govt to expatriate about 8000 Germans trapped in Canada back home. About 25 flights I believe.
As a passenger entering the country you will have to endure enforced isolation, As Chopper nut is experiencing, unless you live within 5 hrs drive of where you land. This must be by private car. and you go into lock down once there. Transport will be provided for those living near by.
As Chopper Nut stated only 10 passengers are allowed off an arriving flight at a time to be processed and checked. This is causing the disembarkation time to take up to 2 hrs!

I don't know why the cops etc are so aggravated. Maybe strayed/stretched nerves with the uncertainty of this bug.

Have you got XP on your laptop CN?

There's definitely been a lot of changes and changing information from the government which has made life very difficult. The police are now in a position that they can act however they want under the guise of this issue which I'm very uncomfortable with... given how many lies were told and how the police have acted around the recent firearms debacle.....

Yep, got my laptop with me and XP loaded among other sims. I don't have any controls though so I'm playing GTA and Reentry as well as looking through Steam for other things to keep occupied. Might be a good time to start another XP scenery project

I believe one of the reasons that there is so much confusion as to what you can and can't do was the short period in between going from Level 3 to Level 4.
Nearly all the information given about what you could and couldn't do, up to going to level 4, was to do with Level 3 restrictions ie you could go to the beach etc. even though level 4 was only 48 hours away

Yes I thought about venturing back into a train sim. Not sure whether to go the Trainz way or DSW2020.

Just received a visit from the law again. They were handing out sheets for us to fill in about where our final destinations were. They seem to be preparing to get us out of here despite only being here for four days so I don't know. Hotel has actually been very communicative about laundry, walking, food etc.

It'll probably be a few days before they get us home. I'm not that worried, can't leave, got entertainment and food, can't get my PNG visa renewal sorted to go back to work.... I just have to relax.

The amount of international connections that can’t fly regional is huge, we’ve had 10 booked but only 1 turn up as they don’t want to fly. Sometimes positioning crew for the jet fleet from their homes to AKL is all we’ve had on board.

That being said I’m sure in 2 weeks everyone will be out of quarantine and want to go back home so the flights should be fuller then.

Yeah there were probably 20 of the 30 people on my flight that had connections that they weren't allowed to take. See what happens I guess
