Don't T-tail airliners have a propensity for stalling at high AOA?
Are these highly paid adventurous pilots, or the only ones anyone could find to fly into that place?

Apparently the Captain of this flight is a rather "colourful" character having had a few skirmishes with African law as well as doing a short stretch of time.
It takes a sort of "rogue bush pilot to dodgy airline pilot" to do this sort of flying.
The orbit would have been conducted at low level to reduce exposure to SAMs and small arms fire from the no fly zone.
It is very easy to develop a high rate of descent when looking out the window for the runway. You can even hear the "DONT SINK" aural alert at one point just before completing the turn onto finals.
Yes a T tail does have a propensity to stall at high AoAs and this is due to the wing blanketing the tail plane. The 727 has a stick pusher to counter this event.

Maybe to the former... but as the RAF Tornados showed in Desert Storm, definitely No if avoiding small arms fire.
