Mike, I don't think I'll be quitting FSX any time soon, but it really does depend on what NZers are using - if there's a big jump to x64, then FSX might go the way of FS2004 -- a handful of keen users, but no more, and no less, and certainly not a payware market's worth. For my last computer update, I couldn't read my old FSX disc, so had to buy on trademe. Since then we've had FSX-se, but if I had to start over, I don't really see the point of keeping it, as I only really use FSX to test
It would be great if there was a reliable way to determine what people are using, but really I don't think I could do that. Even Prepar3d is a bit of a lottery -- as I'm adding support for v4, I will remove v2, as I suspect that there are not may of them left. But the only way I can know is if there's a ruckus when I remove it:)
Maybe one of the major forums will do a major poll, but even then NZ is a bit... different... in our market choice, and uptake.

Another long time customer here Rob and I was going to get into XP11 for my helicopter simming anyway so if I can have your scenery as well then that'll make the experience that much better.

Hi Rob. This is actually my first post in this forum and I only registered so I was able to reply to you. I have also sent you a PM regarding this issue and an offer to help.

I do hope you get into XP as we, rotorheads, need awesome places to fly at :)

So two heli guys post in a row ... tell me guys, in XP11 *the* heli sim of choice these days?

One of these days I fancy getting the pedals, cyclic and collective and 'do'heli properly ... when I finally get my house built and my sim built, I plan to design a quick release / remove / replace mechanism for the controls, both foot and hand, so I can swap relatively easily between fixed wing, race car and perhaps heli in future ... I don't think my wife would allow me to buy and build three separate cockpits!

I wondered that myself, but I do admit that I'd never flown a helicopter in X-plane until this morning... and yes, I crashed on the shore of Lake Tekapo. Far too twitchy for me, but then again my only experience is with the default MS Bell, which I use to test scenery up close.

Sorry for the delay in my reply. I've been some hectic days.

Yes, pretty much. X-Plane is the best non-military sim for helicopters right now. DCS is also amazing but it's very limited in scenery and has fewer aircraft but the flight model is sublime.

X-Plane offers much more scenery (pretty much the entire world), a larger fleet (with DreamFoil helicopters leading the pack) and a great flight model as well. I spend 99% of my sim time in X-Plane and I fly helicopters the whole time. I own a helicopter-specific set of controls and I have disconnected all my non-helicopter controls.

Interesting. What [non-primary] controls do you have connected and which have you now specifically disconnected?
I'd assume primary controls (cyclic, collective, anti-torque, perhaps throttle on the collective); what non-primary controls, modules, add-ons, etc?

I have no secondary controls or modules with the exception of Track IR. Apart from the primary controls, I do all my stuff in the 3D cockpit. Being primarily a VFR, non-ATC (I don't fly in Vatsim nor IVAO) simmer, I don't fiddle with the cockpit or the instruments a lot. It's pretty much startup and shutdown.

Other than that it's all about enjoying the scenery for me.

Right. I fly GA fixed wing VFR almost exclusively with the occasional heli flight.
I have most of the Saitek panels and TPM.
I'd like to get dedicated heli controls one day ... they seem expensive!

They are. But they are SO worth it. You can hack your joystick and make it more helo-friendly (https://www.helisimmer.com/tips-and-tri ... -friendly/) but there's nothing like having proper controls.

I'm not a great helicopter pilot but my skills have increased a lot since I got the PFT Puma. It's a great kit -- although, yes, a bit expensive. But they're made of metal, are well-built and feel great. The folks from PFT are an amazing bunch and very eager to help so the support is stellar. Note that I don't work for PFT ;)

I see yesterday Toprop(Rob) made his kickstarter goal .
Just like to say well done and hope you achieve all the things you have planned.I watched your video and was impressed with the level of detail.I recently downloaded Aerofly and hope you can make scenary for it,but understand that all depends on a lot of factors beyond your control.
Xplane looks terrific though and every one around here is lucky to have your services.

Kickstarter sent me a note to say you might be in touch for details such as shipping address or T-shirt size.
I'd like to see the T-short design first please ;-)

Seriously, well done, and looking forward to see what you come up with...
