What a mess

Postby emfrat » Sat Apr 08, 2017 4:50 pm

This starts just south of Neil's Beach, and can be seen all the way to Te Anua. Pic taken near NZMF No idea how long it has been like this, but it was good before. I found a lot of FTX stuff had been placed in the top of the Scenery Library, so I disabled them, but it made no difference. There is water - you can see the waves - on top of mountains and snow, which gradually clears to the striped effect, and eventually sprouts trees, but the water can be seen underlying the forest.
Anyone seen anything like it? Any advice would be appreciated.

Looks like some of the problems I had land out in the sea lakes in places where there were no lakes and all sort of like that with ORBX a while back finished up doing a new download and clean install of ORBX again.
AS for all the ORBX going to the top of the scenery library every time I do anything in the ORBX control panel it dump everything down under ORBX in the scenery library ORBX can be a pain in the butt sometimes wants to take over your flight sim a bit like Microsoft how wants to take over your PC.

I have seen this before even on the flats, this was dating back to the old 'Forest Field' scenery, it is a pain in the ass, your not a FTX scenery person so I am surprised this popped up, it maybe a case of switch off anything in the region , just the tick, even starting with the VLC land-class , something found recent with abnormal happenings .

I tried a couple of things, without success...FTX Central 3 is still the prime suspect. I will just have to work back to YWOL, which required FTXC to install. On the other hand, I now have a number of screenies which qualify for this month's comp

Funny:)

Just a few wild ideas -- it certainly looks like a terrain.cfg problem, not sure how to fix that, though. When you install FTX Central 3, it will overwrite any previously set FTX Insertion Point, so the first step should be to set that back to something useful, then I'd re-activate any inactive FTX folders and see what happens. I don't think you can 'fix' FTX issues by unselecting folders, there's too much else installed which isn't controlled by the Scenery Library -- for instance, terrain.cfg...

Unsetting and resetting a region used to be a good way to fix issues like this, but I don't think that FTXC3 allows this anymore, gone is the need to change/set regions. I would have thought that just running FTXC3 would overwrite terrain.cfg with the new regionless version, it certainly seems to overwrite other files, such as autogen descriptions.

Thanks Rob - I did get the Insertion Point changed to just above the default scenery, but it didn't fix anything. The terrain cfg has hundreds of FTX sections added to it, so I will cut them out and see what that does.. This could be the end for what little FTX stuff I have on this machine.

Well, I cut all the FTX appends from the terrain cfg, and that got rid of the stripey effect. However there are still major texture probs.

Those grey blobs to port are actually water textures

If I change the Season fron Fall to Summer, I get this, which looks better, but I think this is default NZ sneaking in.

Now with that done have you re-installed the VLC again and another trick putting the VLC textures into the primary FSX texture folder.

Well, that will be something to look at, but at at the moment, Plan A is is to obliterate every vestige of FTX/ORBX from my system, even the AI, which is pretty good, and just writing off YWOL.
