Not the best start to the airshow calendar with Day 1 of the event cancelled due to rain. With no signs of it improving tomorrow either with also a thunder storm watch,

Possibly not the best of timing but certainly pretty dry and in much needed rain. The night show was also postponed till tomorrow. I have checked the met and so far not looking good
its only occasional so the show may go on. Then the rest of the week looks good,

Been to many a show, Wanaka 2002 was a misery with the rain .. just depends on how it settles.

Be another nice spot to check out Mike .. F-111 , would have been nice to have a looksie .. as for the Wairarapa Wildcat Weather looks a little better.

I think the RAAF no longer have f1-11s. Well airshow was canceled altogether but planes did put on bit of flying for the public as the weather got better.

Glen, the old F-111 gone now over four years, RAAF were even operating many ex USAF machines since they to retired them years back, very sure NASA still has two on the books.

Yes Ian sadly they were a incredible aircraft, What happened to the Hawker hunter that flew at Ohakea for the 75 years ?

That is based up at Tauranga Classic Flyers Museum and Ardmore every now and again.

I guess its not the case but the word museum and aircraft usually means locked up and no longer flying

Most of the F-111 fleet were simply biffed in a hole and buried.

Put in a hole ? That usually is not the case now. Some are kept to museums then some are scrapped for the metal the weapons and ejectors are cut up and thrown away and recycled.
I don't think they throw them in the hole like they did after the war.

The majority, yes they did, there was outcry, I lot of the aircraft had still had sensitive gear in them .. ex USAF machine, got the numbers here.

A decade or so back, when I was being nice to tourists on behalf of the local council, we had a stand at the annual Toowoomba Ag & Hort Show...the nice young lady who let me in asked "Are you in the Antiques and Collectibles?"
I was very polite.

I do wonder if they did have anything else for the 'Wairarapa Wildcat Airshow' punters to have a look at even if there was no flying ..... Mike, me at Wigram Museum one time I'd had to step in, the Museum staff was a lost for info, simply filled the group in on how the specific's of the aircraft , after that I was asked if I was museum staff ... crikey that has happened a few time before , It is good when people appreciate someone jumping in with the knowledge ... I missed out on the pretty girls tho ! BUGGER !

I think there's an issue with the ejector seats in it. As Martin Baker has stopped supporting them it needs a service every now and then. Also it's really expensive to run, and then there's issues with CAA.

In other words it's a long story and I'm glad I saw Dave do an awsome display at Tauranga in 2011(?)

That is a Safety thing , I thought the ejector seat was disarmed years ago due to a ruling and flown with special consent.
