SSD/HDD Installation of FSX

Postby Pato » Mon Sep 05, 2016 2:13 pm

Recently upgraded to Win10. I lost everything when my Win7 HDD failed and I had trouble with my backup.

I got my technician to install a 250GB SSD with the OS and also a 1TB HDD. I would like some advice on how to reinstall FSX and associated programs.

What should I put on the SSD and what other programs should I put onto the 1TB HDD.? Any help will be appreciated.

Pato, currently my FSX install is 108GB and on a 500 raptor drive , My SSD is not big enough ... yours is , now on my Raptor I do have a lot of files in the works and many other working files.

If your FSX is your most important used I would install onto SSD , you have the room for it and use your other drive to store and maybe use other programs required, printers/scanners and other programs.

The normal suggestion is to put your OS on the SSD, and your sim on the HD. A SSD won't really speed up the sim, it may improve loading a smidgeon, but it won't let it perform any better. Windows, on the other hand, benefits a lot from the SSD.
Of course these days I'm tempted to buy another SSD for my sim...

Thankyou both for your comments they are most helpful. Now for the hard part of re-installing everything.

I have my OS on a 240GB SSD and my FSX on a 300GB Raptor HDD I did try my FSX on a SSD but found that there was no gain over the SSD against the Raptor.
