Microsoft Force Feedback Sidewinder??

Hi all,

I'm modifying my custom made yoke to handle force feedback and i'm in need of a force feedback joystick, preferably a Microsoft Sidewinder 2.

Anyone have one or know of someone who does?

I'm willing to pay for it.

Sorry, they can prise mine out of my cold, dead hand -- probably literally.

I'm very much aware that it's getting on for 15 years old, and it's been a long time since it fed-back any force, so one day I'll need to replace it. Luckily I now have the yoke which is a good alternative for me.

Funnily enough... ...!

On all my various Joysticks fitted with force-feedback, since my original Microsoft FF Pro, I have always disabled it in the program, finding it rather annoying, and unrealistic!

Under normal circumstances, in an aircraft, vibration and shock would be felt throughout the entire body, not just the hands!

....just to obtain the sensations and sound effects.

I managed to end up getting one on ebay as it seems New Zealand no longer stocks anything like this.

I've been quietly collecting MSFF2 sticks on Trademe over the last couple of years - in part because they're just about the best joystick ever made. I've now got three of them.

The one I'm using is the first model and I've a spare with the rubberised red handle/grips (gone all tacky over time) for spare parts. Because the red one has higher resolution sensors I should probably use that one and swap the handles over.

I have a third one - which is why I'm commenting here - that appears to have come from a smoker's household so is, to say the least, rather "wiffy" and not so pleasant to have around - but that could be useful for spare parts or butchering for yoke building. If you're in need of more bits I could on-sell it...

I'm particularly looking g for the circuit board and motors with cabling. Preferably sidewinder 2 but if it is the earlier version it may still be fine.

To be clear, there were two revisions of the MSFF2 stick. The first all-black model is what most of us recognise. There was a later version with red grips that had slightly improved sensor resolution.

May spare on is a black model.

Dose not matter what version you have, eventually they will crap out .. well least if you FS in the evenings ... I don't think there is a good spare parts store around ... I know that for sure.

Anything will wear out eventually - but the MSFF2 will last better than practically anything else on the market or made in the last 10 years. No pots to wear out or TM Warthog style muck-metal components.

Just depends how much use they got .... here it got bloody busy for quite a few years .. and that was between the quiet months between the years .. and even then .. add a few more whopplips in between that ...
