I pop in many times during the day, and its always deathly quiet... ...!

I'm constantly looking for something to reply to, to keep the Forum active!

There don't seem to be many folks around lately!

I constantly swap between Simviation and NZFF all day long.

Paul....feeling lonely in NZ!... :( .... ....!

Ian -- I was going to reply to your previous thread about missing posts, but didn't get around to it. A few people have pointed out that the search function doesn't seem to return anything since the software changeover, so I wonder if your 'missing posts' are simply not showing up in a search.
NZFF has always been 'the little forum that could', but these days there's a bit of a change away from this sort of community, and more towards social networking -- so I wonder if people are getting their local flightsim info some other way. I have a couple of apps which deliver most news of interest to my phone, including flightsim news, and this is a lot simpler than having to be at the PC for a period of time each day.
Plus, I've mentioned before that any newcomers have been quickly driven away by the older guys, who tend to have fallen into the 'treat your elders with respect' trap, which doesn't leave much room for anything new or different.
One thing which I suddenly realised -- I tend to get more general queries, not related to scenery, through my website than there are new posts here! Suddenly it seems easier for people to contact me directly, rather than post here, and I suspect that this is something to do with the changes, and the large number of 'humorous' responses from the same old members. I generally tell people to ask here, but not a lot of people actually follow it through by posting here.
I don't know what the answer is, but this might just be an inevitable progression. It's time to think about what we can do to change things, rather than what we can do to keep them the same.

The thing is...

I am long retired, and at home all day, posting stuff, and I tend to forget that lots of my Chums are probably hard at work during the day, and busy watching the Tele, during the evening, and not much time for pretending to fly aeroplanes and type on Forums.. ...!

Paul...its nice being retired...I can annoy lots of folks on Forums!... ... ... ...!

...that's another thing...I avoid annoying Social Networks like "Face-book", etc, like the plague, so Forums like this is the only way I can get in touch with other folks around the World!

...and Forum Folks are generally much nicer...

Paul....I need a cuddle... ...!

Fact is the general forum is as dead as a Donkey since the change, well known others having their posts removed and others who walked away , yeah rules .. maybe its time and get ideas out off the pram ... even having a APP's and communicator 'the little forum that could' you would be surprised from the internationals , the amount off people from whom I don't get PM but emails .. 'the little forum that could' I think is a little understated , its what you put in that makes it the real butt kicker .... its when ones start editing to much , becomes that 'the little forum that could'

I think it was also the culling off early members, evening they have not logged in for years and even if they were not posting , I don't see other major sites doing the same .. couple of years back there was not ONE person online and NINE online hiding in the shadows ..

This time off the night three/four years back .. you would regularly have 18 to 25 peoples and another 50 to 60 hiding behind mothers dress's , not technology APPs and Ipads .. so there is more to the loss , I notice names pop up for Birthdays .. all ages they simply don't jump in , I have not change my approach to outsiders or other members ... so for it to be so bad , there is another obvious reason ... some rules need to be bend'ed or flex'd.

Hi Ian,

only as you're asking, here are a couple of potential answers from my side:

1. While I *love* NZ and while I am fortunate to understand a few words of English, I have difficulty to understand (literally and in a broader sense) quite a number of more general postings in this forum. All stuff around the All Blacks, legendary WWII fighters etc. may be interesting to locals but dosn't give me much. Add the fact, that some of (notably) your postings are not quite easy to read and grasp for an Antipode with limited English language (and cultural) background.

2. Maybe it's only my impression, but scenery development in NZ slowed down in general. This does not only concern Godzone, but also ORBX, and others, freeware included. I very much regret this but can do little about it. (I pretty much buy anything in your country anyway.) This way, in the absence of hard content people (those left) start to talk on all the world and his brother. See 1)

Only my observation from a distance, and I may be completely wrong.

Kind regards, Michael

I belong to Iron-Age times, where my only means of communication with the outside World is via old-fashioned, hand-written letter, e-mail, and land-line telephone.....
...and of course...
....Forums, like this.... :D ....!

Which means, apart from a couple of Forums like this, I have very little contact with the outside World!.... :( ...!

But, at least, my World is nice and peaceful!.... :D ...!

Paul.... ....!

Oh.....I almost forgot...I visit Sainsbury's most days, on my Bike, and chat with the check-out ladies!... ....!

Michael , then you have to try and understand my Ianglish as people here call it , I started this as a general observation and trend I have noticed over the last year or so.

I do have other scenery incoming one near complete , Motueka and another- New Plymouth township and area , its that I have to concentrate time in other things at the moment , I turn around and look at it ... crikey we are starting to run out off New Zealand , you check out Rob's http://windowlight.co.nz/godzoneWP/

I think what the problem is, we used to have two title dialogue box's , a 'Title' then a 'Description' , I asked friend in the States was Lt Cmr Kenneth Walls , I put the name in and it simply dose not come up.

I agree with most of Rob's comments. However the more "contentious" posts are confined to the non-flight sim related forum areas and are thus easily avoided if one does not like it. As long as it stays that way (and it does not migrate across) then all is fine and healthy. The flight sim related areas are generally cordial and very helpful.
VATNZ has similar issues to what we have here, especially varying member subscriptions. We are just small and relatively unknown.
Do we have a NZFF banner that can be used as a signature when posting in other forums to help raise our profile (if indeed that is what is wanted)?

One thing you can say it gets people chatting , most other forums I always leave a tatter tail ball off string directing people to look at scenery or the paints , Its that I have noticed a huge drop in numbers, guess I'm asking why this is, I think one that can be said about this forum has more direct contact with members and that show how close netted we are ... Its only another seven/eight months and this place hits its tenth year so I guess that is saying something.

Well, just for curiousity, I clicked the Members button, then clicked on E, and clicked on emfrat, and it seems I have made something like 1500 posts ! :o

So then I looked for Ian's posts, and it showed 35529 of them, 1777 pages' worth, back to June 18, 2006. In the final entry I clicked on the topic (Rob Corn's Wanaka) and it brought up all 12 posts in that discussion.
