DX10

Postby Barrington » Thu Aug 06, 2015 3:40 pm

 I had never tried out DX10 preview until recently and results were not good (black squares surrounding airport scenery etc).
I am running the following system:
Intel Core I 7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz, 8.0GB Ram, NVIDIA Geforce GTI 750 Ti
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit - SP1
FSX with Acceleration - Disk versions
I ask if anyone can help me with the answers to the following questions:
1) Is it worth exploring?
2) Are there obvious improvements?
3) if so, what are they likely to be?
4) what do I need to add/change to my present system to make it work e.g. DX10 Fixer?
5) are there a lot of technical changes required to make it worthwhile?
6) does it eat into FPS or any major resources with what I have?
I am interested in taking this further if it's that much better than what I have already, but am floundering at present,
so any help, suggestions, directions would be most helpful
Many thanks
Barrington

If you're going to run DX10 preview you need Steve's DX10 Fixer. The black squares you see are issues with shaders and lighting which this programme corrects

With your PC - the Intel Core I 7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz, 8.0GB Ram, NVIDIA Geforce GTI 750 Ti , is only different regard to the CPU , I'm lessor , the black - (black squares surrounding airport scenery etc) , I wonder when the PC was last internal dusted , this dose have a huge impact .

Away from that, if you regularly fly the area you would find the scenery to pick up the specific detail , Question , this is with addon scenery ? .. this will happen least on mine .. seen it many times course once working on an area the black squares mind meld with the PC .

Ian, it's DX10, he needs the fixer (Tho this won't hekp with Taxi2Gate as they are not DX10 compat) but the issue is shadows, shaders and lights

I do have the DX10 fixer, it was a payware but after many re-installs , now with a complete OS install and FSX be interesting to see it working again .. be well worth for me to retry other FTX AI which worked years back.

Quite right, Steve's Fixer is worth every penny (or 10 cents I guess these days) :ph43r:

Heres a link that can help you a little with DX10. He even has downloads for his DX10 fixer settings and others. Might help. Worked for me when I was using DX10..

Many thanks to those that responded and I am following up on 'OMitchell' link to the youtube hints,
however I was hoping for some personal opinions so again ask these questions:
1) Is DX10 worth exploring?
2) Are there obvious improvements?
3) if so, what are they likely to be?
4) what do I need to add/change to my present system to make it work in addition to DX10 Fixer?
5) are there a lot of technical changes required to make it worthwhile?
6) does it eat into FPS or any major resources with what I have?
As I said before, I am interested in taking this further if it's that much better than what I have already, but am floundering at present,
and really was hoping for some feedback to the above.........
Hope someone can help

1. Definitely, once I got it running I had no intentions of going back to DX9
2/3. Yes, particularly with water textures, cockpit shadows, the scenery looks better (at least it does to me!) I can still fly when over areas with lower frame rates.
4. You will need to read up on this. You really must get Steve's Fixer though. Adamski (I think) had a very useful document about setting up DX10 - worth finding and reading
5. A reasonable number but working through Admaski's document made it fairly straight foward
6. fps appear to be a little better and as I said above even when flying in areas with low frame rates which would have crippled DX9 I am still able to fly with reasonable control

Pleased to be of service. Usually I'm so late reading requests for help that the problems have already been solved. Nice to get in early for once!!
