Godzone/Real NZ compatibility with Orbx NZ...

Postby toprob » Mon Mar 23, 2015 10:15 am

This thread is here so anyone can ask questions about Orbx/Godzone compatibility in particular, and the future of NZ scenery in general. It is aimed at those asking questions over at the Orbx forum, mainly, and it gives a kind of neutral ground where I can interact without the risk of breaching Orbx's rules regarding competing developers.

If you come here with a question, it would be good if you could use this thread to get the conversation going, but you don't have to. You can also ask me anything via theGodzone Store contact page, or the Subscription site contact page if you are not a member here.

But realistically, if you are interested in NZ simming, you should join:)

Even if you don't ask, there are some questions asked over at Orbx, which I may answer when I get a spare minute.

Ask me anything!

Hi Rob - I'll take you up on that offer! I'm using P3D v2 exclusively now with ORBX NI and SI. Thanks to other threads here (cheers guys) I've managed to get NZTG (FSX), NZRO (subscription), NZWN (subscription) and NZNS (P3D) all working beautifully. I am struggling with NZWB (FSX) though. I've got the correct elevations and have tweaked a few textures to sit better with ORBX SI - I just don't have any of your scenery objects showing. The only objects I see are the terminal, old tower and a few vehicles. I've tried everything I can think off (reinstalling, switching off NZSI, turning off the photoreal background, changing the scenery library insert point etc). I'm wondering if you or anyone else managed to get it working (I haven't moved on to Picton or Omaka yet so can't comment on the status of those). I see from the comment on your compatibility page that its on hold but any info or advice would be appreciated as I'm going cross-eyed trying to get it to work

Cheers,
Mat

Hi Mat
Woodbourne is tricky, as the normal way of getting a non-FSX-compatible airport working is to just disable all the FTX elements for that airport, but the problem with Woodbourne is that the FTX elevation is just so different from the default. So I've just had a look at it, and tried going the other way, turning off all the Godzone elevation files, leaving the FTX elevation files, and turning off the FTX objects and fences.
This kind of works, but there is far too much flickering of the ground polys, simply because I've had to disable the Godzone flatten. So I can't get it to work properly just by disabling files, it would need a new flatten as well.

HOWEVER this is kinda academic, as it doesn't explain why you wouldn't have all the Godzone scenery showing. Normally I'd put this down to scenery priority -- a FTX exclusion with higher priority -- but if you have checked the priority and set it properly using FTX Central Insertion Point then this shouldn't happen. It would be worth noting, though, that you should check the priority of Real NZ Marlborough, if it has been activated for a while it might be lower in the library than it should be, so it might be worthwhile bringing it up to the top of the list.

I really don't have any immediate plans to make Woodbourne compatible, as it just isn't worthwhile -- there is almost no interest in these older airports amongst FTX users in general, so I wouldn't recoup the cost of the time it would take to fix it.

However -- another however, not the same however -- Doug Cunliffe has been working on a new photoscenery for Marlborough, and I've promised to tweak these old airports for that, which would be a good time to tweak the compatibility. I don't know how long this will take, I am not really in a position to work on it at the moment.

If you can get the Godzone buildings etc to show, then I can run through some steps to make the airport 85% workable.

Just an added extra, I was working on flattens for this specific area , in the last month the FSX PC is getting completely reset in my spear time, it is taken longer but it dose need a dedicated fatten , I did get few done , but simply time is spent more in the art department but always like the Blenheim/Omaka stop offs.

Elevations. At the back of the airport elevation goes to pot and in the lake there is almost a Tsunami...

Is there a chance for a screen, I still installing stuff , or most still needs to be done, even the AFX which I use to flatten problem areas.

That wall's there in real life -- I've got some photos of my ex-wife lounging on it, although it was a bit less watery and a bit more blocky back then...

Hi guys, I bought a bundle package a few years ago and Rotorua was meant to be a free throw in (to the best of my knowledge), unfortunately I didnt follow up an erro as it never came with download. Where can Rotorua be purchased? Would be most grateful for your help :)

If you purchased this from the Godzone Store, then contact me through the old Store and I'll reactivate the download.
Just bear in mind that Real NZ Rotorua is not compatible with Orbx. There was a updated compatible version included in the Subscription, but this isn't yet finished, and won't be available again until it is finished.
