Thanks Doug. Yeah as I mentioned in the post above I removed EVERYTHING that had NZWN or Wellington in the filename, from all folders top to bottom.

Hi Dean
Sorry, family day today.
While checking on the procedures I used in the NZWN installer, I did discover a problem which would cause issues for those who use FTX Central, which I'm pretty sure includes you. I don't know why I did this, I do know better. The problem is the way in which I've disabled the FTX stub in Scenery\World\Scenery -- I normally rename these to a .bak extension, whereas I rename FTX files in any other folder to .off. This is because .off is what FTX Central uses to toggle FTX files in Scenery\World\Scenery. But for some reason I renamed this file to .off. This means that when you use FTX Central, to toggle FTX NZ off and on, it will reactivate this particular file. That shouldn't happen.

To fix this is normally simple -- you just need to make sure that Oceania is active in FTX Central, then rename the FTX stub -- ADE_FTX_NZNI_NZWN_elevation_adjustment.bgl -- to ADE_FTX_NZNI_NZWN_elevation_adjustment.bak

However if you have changed other files, then this will be a bit trickier.

Bear in mind that airport elevations are generally made up of various elements -- and generally you need all of these active for them to work properly, otherwise you are mixing and matching different elevations.
The Godzone NZWN scenery relies on three things to get the elevations right:

  • It disables both Orbx NZNI and prevous GZ files when it is installed;
  • It supplies elevation mesh, matching flattens and matching elevations in airport facilities;
  • it relies on Godzone NZWN having higher priority than any other scenery in the area, including FTX NZ, VLC etc.

There are a few things which can go wrong with this.

First, this does rely on the installer finding things set up as you intend to use the scenery. So for it to make the changes for FTX compatibility, it needs to find FTX NZNI. This means that if you plan to install FTX NZNI after Godzone scenery, you should remove the Godzone scenery first, and reinstall after installing FTX NZNI. This is where you should search your FSX installation for NZWN files, and remove them.

The main issue with this sort of elevation problem is normally duplicate files in Scenery\World\Scenery. The file here needs to match the elevation in the new scenery, that's why my installers would generally disable any FTX files here. But in this case, probably not.

So you want to end up with all the installed files in Godzone\GodzoneNZWN folder, plus just one active stub file in Scenery\World\Scenery, in this case the file called:
NZWN_ADEX_GVF_ALT.Bgl

To deactivate the FTX stub, you'd want to rename the FTX stub file as above.

Let me know if this helps or hinders. I will fix the Wellington installer, but for anyone who has used it, it should just be a matter of:

  • Make sure that Oceania is active in FTX Central;
  • Go to Scenery\World\Scenery;
  • Find the FTX stub file called ADE_FTX_NZNI_NZWN_elevation_adjustment, with either a .off extension or a .bgl extension, and change the extension to .bak.

The current extension for this file will depend on whether or not you have toggled Oceania off and on since installing GodzoneNZWN.
