Dive bombing Piper over Waimauku on Saturday

Postby Adrian Brausch » Mon May 04, 2015 5:43 pm

Hi all,..last weekend while out duck shooting along a river on private property a white/light grey Piper Cherokee (I think that is what it was) with orange colouring along the side diverted from its flightpath down to I would say 200 ish feet..landing lights on made a bee line for our maimai pulling up just short of us then flew off in South East direction. If there are any Private pilots out there who know of someone who might skite to their other flying mates of their "funny antics' trying to scare away ducks from the hunters (we get microlites all the time buzzing down river during duck season trying to make a statement),..tell your mates that next time they may get a belly full of no.2 steel...I'm a good shot..so are my mates....

Ade.

It could become a theme for a new artwork .. not a bad idea , Greg brought in a well established artist/teacher to look at some off my work, one thing pointed out and mentioned .... I love my aircraft , forgot his name currently but mentioned I should do something very political - a statement - but this would make for a , well hell of a theme 'maimai's' going mental B-)

Maybe next time, aim a video camera at them and get the registration! There are a few idiots out there but I think threatening to take a pot shot at them is probably not the best idea! :P

I'm a little passionate about this sort of thing as a professional aviator. I've been crossing mountain passes and flying close to hills trying to get somewhere, nothing to do with hunting and have had hunters shoot at me. Not saying that dive bombing a maimai (if that's actually what he/she was doing) is an acceptable thing to do but don't go around shooting at aircraft or even threatening to do it.

They'll tell you that if you couldn't get the rego then it wasn't doing anything wrong. Is it possible that it was doing simulated forced landing practice?

It's possible that more than one person saw it and another report may well have provided the registration. CAA are currently being very procative with the big stick and any info may be useful.

I should get my rifle back from my uncle. The range on it would more than keep them out of your way. It's actually probably more illegal to have that rifle in NZ than it would be to take pot shots at prats in props...
