Tomcats and Kick arse Battleships .. one thing that also kept the Iowa class in action for so long was its 12.1 ft think armour plate .. had the Royal navy had these for close in shore bombardment , the Argies exocet missiles would have simply bounced off :D

You forgot the South Dakota class , it was the USS Alabama they made that movie "Under Siege" .... the Japanese battle wagon certainly did have some very unique styles after the many rebuilds .. the two Yamato's never really got around to doing much and funny the last Battleship v Battleship in the Surigao Strait really proved and showed a lack of classic planing they were so good at during the IJN Cruiser engagements two years previous at Savo Island.

You mean:

Air Boss Johnson: Two of your snot-nose jockeys did a fly-by on my tower at over 400 KNOTS! I want somebody's butt, I want it now, I've HAD IT!
[storm out, then bumps into a Yeoman and spills coffee all over his pants]

It was quite weird when back in the early 1970s we did not think we would see even a 747 let alone the C-5A ... the first arrival of the Galaxy into the NZ , still recall the low level tiki tour over the city in 1973 , that was extra impressive .
