Air NZ announces regional network cuts

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

One of the blogs today pointed out that Whakatane people only had a one hour drive to Tauranga to catch their flights, similar to a large portion of Aucklanders
traveling to Mangere for theirs. Makes a point I suppose, in a country this small someone is always going to have to drive some distance to an airport.

Bet the Taupo people have breathed a sigh of relief having been left alone this time around....?

Article mentions using 208s, don't Salt Air already operate them out of Kaitaia? Caravans might be big enough but aren't they a bit slow?[/quote]
Slow , one thing mentioned during the Sydney airport tour, Kendel Air I think, even the said the Twotted could fly faster backwards was one of the companies in-house joke.

Guys, there will be people willing to try to take over these routes that have been 'suspended', some may have success and others that might only do it for the publicity then close them and move on.

Also please note that there are members here that are part of Eagle and are waiting news that affects them more than the people who have had their air service suspended.
