Black arm band day.
Remember the 50-50-90 rule. Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong!

Black arm band day.

Black shoes, tracksuit pants, tee shirt and black Boeing 717 cap, don't have a 747 one.

A bugger to see those 747s now retired. The end of the jumbo jet era of Air NZ which lasted for 33 years.

My mum's friend was onboard the last ever 747 flight from SFO-AKL, pretty spectacular, a smooth flight and before boarding, they were treated to champagne and cupcakes and breakfast at the boarding gate at SFO.

The outcome of the 8 B744s

ZK-NBS: scrapped
ZK-NBT: scrapped
ZK-NBU: scrapped
ZK-NBV: sold to another airline, currently in storage
ZK-NBW: converted to freighter and sold to another airline, in active service
ZK-SUH: currently in storage, to be scrapped.
ZK-SUI: sold to another airline, in active service
ZK-SUJ: converted to freighter and sold to another airline, currently in storage

Outcome of another 8 B742s

VH-EBA: leased to Air NZ, retured to Qantas, scrapped
ZK-TGA: converted to freighter and sold to another airline, currently in storage
9M-MHI: leased to Air NZ, converted to freighter and returned to Malaysia Airlines, currently in storage
ZK-NZV: sold to another airline, currently in storage
ZK-NZW: sold to another airline, scrapped
ZK-NZX: sold to another airline, currently in storage
ZK-NZY: sold to another airline, currently in storage
ZK-NZZ: sold to another airline, currently in storage

Total: 16 747s acquired by Air NZ,

5 aircraft scrapped (3 B744s, 2 B742s)
2 aircraft in active service (Both B744s)
9 aircraft in storage (3 B744s, 6 B742s)

All as of Oct 7, 2014.

I happened to see the emasculated and anonymous Blue Tail sticking out at the maintenance hangar while passing on Saturday.
Didn't realise this was the actual End of an Era.
