Wellington subscription scenery issue 4.

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby Eagleeye » Fri Oct 03, 2014 3:35 pm

I have just downloaded this subscription issue of Wellington for FSX and all I can say is WOW. If the subscription series continue with this standard of work the NZ Simulator scene has a great future.
Thanks Robin for the fine effort you have me as a customer hook line and sinker, cheers. biggrin.gif

Very much appreciated! Especially today -- sometimes my mood depends a lot on my sales, so today's been a bit stressful, without the pick up in sales I was hoping for with the release of Wellington. Still, things might improve over the weekend.

I was particularly pleased with the first Wellington release, that is shaping up to be a monster scenery.

Got a little busy my artwork in the last couple of days/hours .. now ready to hit this for a RealNZ promotion , frankly now you can fly all the way up the South Islands West coast all glued with photo-real , this starts all the way down from Tikitimu/Te-anua across rip in across to Wanaka across to Jackson Bay then now start heading up the coast , next stop Haast, quick stop then into Fox Glacier or across the ridge into Franz Joesph Glacier .. leaving and head up to Hokitika, this would have to be a lunch stop, well unless you brought a picnicking basket .. off we go to Greymouth, I know many here , no time for a chat of we go to Westport .. good scwizz and a looksie ... then continue north to Karamea got to admire the town, we could have landed but now we decided to head east and that would put you directly into Nelson .... over Nelson its to Wellington, once a little sight seeing continue head that easterly headed and you land smack in the middle of the Capital .

Moral of that very long typing story to which I'm told I'm not very good at this but , ..... we have traveled the West Coast of the South Island .... All the points and places, all photo-real that blends into either VLC or ORBX ... Now .. the quiet stretch across the strait into Wellington .. and now the new 2014 Photo-real .

For me I admire the quality of the product animation, though I admit Wellington is not my first choice for scenery. I am looking forward to that Southland area e.g Dunedin, Invercargill, Bluff, Nightcaps, Otautau, Fiordland, I could go on and on. Although I live in Auckland
I just love the South and my FSX sim enables me to make those flying visits I miss. With many of the photo sceneries now available for the West Coast, (I have loaded them all) my appetite has increased.
Also how about an addon for Mount Cook Hermitage complex to include in your subscription photo real issue 1. Anyhow don't get me wrong your doing great work thanks.

I'll just expand on what I've put in the FAQ regarding points of interest. When it comes to modelling POIs, I always need to visit and photograph it. This is just the way I work, I admire people who imagine what something could look like and build it that way, but I have no imagination! So one stated purpose of the subscription is to finance the ongoing development, including funding visits to various places. For example, I'm currently looking at a plan I drew up showing where I'd have to be income-wise before I can afford to visit Hawke's Bay, and I'm not quite there yet. It should be possible at some stage to fly into Mount Cook for a day, but at the moment I'm trying to cover my rent...

So the answer is, you might get the Hermitage, and lots of other POIs around the country, but the subscription is promoted as 'photoscenery' just in case I can't afford to visit all these places.

Airports are really in the same position, they are cheaper to fly into, as I can fly in and out in a day. However to do the job properly, I want to stay 2 or 3 days, hire a car, take a scenic flight etc... That's why Hawke's Bay is my goal at the moment, I could fly in, photograph Napier airport, hire a car and drive to Hastings, and be back home in two days.

Just a suggestion that would keep costs down if one of our members from the Napier area were to pick you up at the airport and drive you around would save on a rental also if they were prepared to put you up for the night or a couple of nights would be a big saving on your costs.
So anyone in the Napier Hastings area how about putting you hand up to help Rob out.

Maybe you should place the 'Donate' button from your freeware page more prominently on the main page?
I know you don't like to ask for money outside of the payware, but I'm happy to donate to a dev that will hopefully in future bring the WGT area photreal quality to Hamilton and the Waikato.
I just went searching for it and did the deed ... and as I said, eventually found it on the freeware page.
Its not a lot, but every little helps, right?
Besides, at least now you can have beans on toast for dinner tonight :-)
Cheers

Very much appreciated, Jeff.

Yes, I'm well-aware that being 'payware' means that you should be able to support yourself, especially if your product is more expensive than most -- $99 is a big chunk for simmers -- but really it suddenly struck me that New Zealand scenery is never going to be a major industry, so it doesn't make sense to treat it as a 'normal' market. Hence my beg/borrow posts lately. But if it works out, then the resulting influx of scenery will be worth having. If it doesn't, then a lot of people would have supported me well beyond what I should expect, and I'd feel bad about that. So it'll just have to work out.

No worries. I'm in.
Please don't give up before getting to Hamilton/Waikato! :-)

Rob;

I'm grateful for whatever you provide. I'll never make it to NZ for real, however with your super work, FTX, photoreal freeware, and GoogleEarth I still can "visit".
I've been in with the subscriptions from the first and will continue.

Cheers;

Top marks on the Wellington scenery release Robin. The definition is outstanding! Really looking forward to this area being expanded. I can already see my house in Stokes Valley winkyy.gif

If this doesn't help sell your subscription I don't know what will!

This brings a whole new level of realism to FSX with this detail. I really hope you are able to carry on Robin, doing what you love and benefiting all the FS community.

Great shots Andy, These really show off the area well.
