Subscription downloads -- is everyone happy?

The official REAL NZ support forum

Since the scenery included in the Subscription makes for larger than normal (for me, anyway) file sizes, I initially planned to break it down into small chunks. For issue 1 this was easy, because there were two separate elements, anyway, and they were released at different times:)

Issue 2 went out in one 888MB chunk, and so far I've had no reports of any problems handling this size. Coming up to issue 3, it looks like this one will be 1GB. I could make it two files, or leave it as one. Breaking it up is easy, but it does complicate the install process -- you can either choose to download two files, and install each in turn, or just install one big file.

If anyone has had problems downloading larger files, then please let me know now. Ultimately I might be able to offer both one big download and smaller chunks, but at the moment I'm struggling to keep the delivery costs down until sales pick up a bit.

I did think of running a poll, but I'm aware that not all subscribers are members here, so if this is the case just email me via the Subscription site or the Godzone Store.

Bear in mind that the downloads are served via Amazon's cloud, which handles larger, quicker deliveries a lot better than me hosting it myself. So provided you have a reasonable broadband connection, it should work fine. I'm just thinking of anyone whose internet is erratic, such as some rural users.

Any of course, you can always order downloads via DVD.

No problems here. I use the 'download them all' plug in for Mozilla for larger files and haven't encountered any issues.

I'm good but my internet isn't erratic so probably not a good case. I like them one part as it simplifies it, lots of the other FS Devs are shipping huge downloads these days so it's common I guess.

Well I guess I had better jump on this bandwagon and support our local devs.
Large files ok but a check sums would be good to confirm the download integrity.

Good idea, CP, including checksums should be easy enough.

...and I appreciate your support!

No problem with larger files here Rob. I too prefer single file installs.

Looking forward to the Hawkes Bay biggrin.gif

No issues with your downloads either, despite my DSL access is not that quick. I prefer one single file, too, as long as others don't have issues with this.

Kind regards, Michael

I've had no problems downloading the files in the UK so far. I would also prefer you keep to single files wherever possible. As I've learnt with P3D, checksums do become very handy the larger files get.

Keep up the good work! clapping.gif

I spend eleven months of the year in the UK and one in NZ. I'm hoping to improve that... ;-)

single is preferred for me ... one of these days I will actually install; perhaps when ORBX get themselves sorted (yes, I know they have done SI but I'm a NI guy!)

As a future subscriber Robin (saving up some $$$) would probably prefer a single file

Rob - my 4G wireless internet plan gives me 8GB/month, and if I go over that, it is throttled down to 64KB/s, which is painful to watch...but with a bit of planning, I can make sure I have around 200MB left on the last day. That means I still get around 8MB/sec speed until I log off, even though I might go over the 8GB limit - and any overage does not affect the next month's allowance of 8GB. So I am happy with things as is.
