Ok , Ive been working through the collection, and Ive come up with the following .

1:Messerschmitts over Sicily by Johannes Stienhoff (a pen and sword book) as new , and unread.

2:"Bravo November" dvd , the 30 year story of one Chinnook, from the Falklands to the present day.

3: Something a bit different ( picked it up on Ebay) ...its a load adjuster ... a type of slide rule to calculate C of G ....this one is for a B-24D, E & G , there is no case for it , just the rule itself.
(Its marked as "property-Air Forces , United States Army) outer and inside slider s/n match (not a replica)

So there you go ..... Ive been advised that 6pm may to early for the family guys , so I'll post the questions at 1900 (7pm) on sunday.

The main difference between the D the E/G variant was the Emmerson nose turret with the extra length only by a couple of feet if that but the weight of the turret change the performance , only diff between the E/G is one is Ford built and the other North American.

Speeds also reduce approx 10 mph between the two types , all bomb-loads very much the same capacity.

The Liberator variants , the D's had a up-to three gun socket , guns can be removed depend on known target .. heavy fighter defence , were the E/G variant had a powered turret , the F was a lessor armed more for the naval actions, british change those to the MkIII to Vs depending mods .

How we got from slide rules to Liberator variants in one post just completely bamboozles me. I'm way too sober...

It what they use pre flight to measure the fuel loading - placement of the bomb type in one of the two bays and loading off ammunition , thus to get the correct CoG you use a slide rule or what is know as load computer for the ... the different variants are very important due to the fact on the norm were sent out at maximum weights and different loads , some case's even put crew into no-go area on takeoff to correct it placement .... D s to E/G models are very different .

When your live depended on it , 30 tons of Lib 4 tons of bombs included on runways built only just long enough every precaution was taken, that was the forth biggest loss of the heavies during WWII.

On checking everything in the 8th and 9th airforce were the D model and the H's , putting the E/G models in the Pacific and India - warmer climes, this maybe the reason why Marty has in his hot little hand the slide rule for the B-24.

The F was a one only prototype mainly changing the rubber deicing to thermal using the exhaust, this then became the first major production models with the feature hence every publication about the 'Eight AF' operates the H and further changes to the definitive J modle.

Thanks Les, It's my bane, I never got married other to a library and the love and lust for most everything that go bang and crash, today you get Utube and doco TV I still believe in the books for example, I have six specialized on the B-17 Flying Fortress, never believe what you read in one book or recent publications or buy a couple to cross reference information and details then you those doco's top ... another good thing is go and meet the people at aeronautical society meetings and have a good chin wag.

By the way Les nice book smile.gif , idea for the general wide field and entire history. cool.gif
