Satellite Internet

Gidday Guys,

Over the last few months since Vodafone bought out Telstra, and the UFB rollout our internet has dropped dramatically pretty much back to dial up speed and yes have done isolation tests different modem etc.
So am looking at other options as we live in a rural area (what really stinks is we have the UFB cable going right past our front door to the local school just down the road and we are not able to hook up to it).

Just wandering if anyone has any experience with satellite internet what pro's and cons are there etc.

Ian W to Ian W , yeah think this change over has really caused a heap of problems, wish the company had stayed Telstra, Vodafone, Hmm bloody pain in the arssse !

I guess satellite internet has changed a lot since my day, I used to use Ihug Ultra, which required a dial-up connection for outgoing requests, so it was a lot like dial-up, except for faster downloads. These days I think the satellite connection goes both ways.
The satellite card used to get red hot, so you could also use it for heating in the winter....
Funnily enough, Ihug were bought out by Vodafone and the service went to s**t. One day a Telstra salesman came knocking, and my wife signed us up for cable. Since moving out of the cabled area, I've been using Telstraclear ADSL, which was always reliable, until Vodafone bought Telstra... Since then things have been getting worse all the time, and now that I've shifted to Diamond Harbour the internet is almost unusable.

Now that would have to rip ya shorts .... wonder if the Tug Lyttleton could lay new cable , I did have a few good friends in the area, a real warship lover ... he's past, probably so is good old trusty clearnet .

I use Xtra and have no issues, reliable speed and don't have dropouts unless I overload the transfer rates. People hate them but the alternatives are third world...

Ian, I'd recommend the Geekzone forum for this sort of query, there's not a lot that they don't have an opinion on, and normally you get an accurate answer.
