When I last went over to the West Coast to take the pictures for Hokitika, I had a list of airstrips which I wanted to put together into a package, but as usual I ran out of money before I could get to all of them. Although I can't really afford to spend any time of freeware at the moment, there really is so much I'd love to get stuck into, so now that LINZ have started releasing the updated South Island aerials, it's time to get started on a few. I said I wouldn't do any more freeware until I release another payware, but rather than get frustrated at not having the income to complete something major, I'll keep busy with freeware.

With Prepar3D I'm starting to see the sort of visuals which match my idea of what New Zealand should look like, with the light and weather effects. Click on the image for the full-sized version.

Cheers, I've picked out a few airstrips which deserve a bit of photo treatment, with your towns the West Coast will be well-covered, as it should be.

Looks really cool. Prepar3d2 is visually (and performance-wise) stunning, it's really fun to fly now.

BTW, my CC would *love* to spend some money for Wellington smile.gif

Kind regards, Michael

Just playing around, trying to get a real West Coasty look just using the VLC libraries.

Wow. I've seen quite a few images during the last months where it gets harder and harder to tell if they were taken from a simulator or from real world. Still recall FS4 times, where you had to get an idea on your height about ground out of a few lines on screen.

Kind regards, Michael

'Course not, I haven't done the night textures yet.

Edit: Actually the thing which is missing is the dampness -- water dripping off everything, even inside your tent. And the flies, of course, because we're near the beach.

Mussel Point, formerly the last stop on the NAC West Coast Fox Moth service.
Yet to be water/blend masked.

Another airstrip at Okarito, although I'm playing around with including the lagoon as well.

Rob

At Okarito and from my memory of a real life landing there in 2002 - there is a bend to the left of about 5 degs (on a landing to the south) on this strip. The road, about two thirds down and on the left of the strip, does have traffic on it and there is a sign warning drivers to "Beware of aircraft"
