The good thing about the flight with the Hornet was that I was given the job to hand signal the pilots to make the most of the time so with the already high angle of attack and putting the Hornet down as far as I could he almost looks like he is climbing at 80 degrees.

And may I say that it is an excellent issue as well one of those that you cannot put down until you have read it from cover to cover.

I'm not really a jet fan but those Hornet shots are ace , not to mention the Sabre

Wicked shots Gavin- what was the camera ship used for the Hornets? What sort of airspeed were they back to for those snaps?

Believe it or not the photos were taken from a DH Caribou doing just over 130 knots.

Not so hard to believe , I recall the 1987 Christchurch Airshow the debut of the F-18 in New Zealand , commentary mentioning as the Hornet flew past "flying the same speed as you drive home"

Looking again at those photos that Boomerang got in close , that would have been a thrill !

Normally when they do the slow alpha pass at airshows they are light on fuel and carrying nothing under the wings or fuselage.

These guys had weapons, extra hard points, drop tanks, and enough fuel to get back to Williamtown which made things a lot harder for them.
Talking to one of the pilots the next day they set the flaps in auto mode, then concentrate on flying the jet in close formation.
Interesting to watch and they burnt a lot of fuel flying as they did, could clearly hear them which was a bit of fun.
