did a bit more today.
Got the plastic pieces painted the other day.
Cut out a couple more bits on night shift the other night ( it was quiet).
cut down and placed the pins for the head and tail and glued them on.

Coming together

was working it out the other night and I think it will take 3 stepper motors to drive the compass rose, the vor element and the heading bug -
then 5 servos to work the cdi bar, the to/from flag, and the nav and heading warning flags etc.
more when I can

cheers

Been doing a bit on the sim, ever so slowly.
This time I've started on the King KDI-572 Dme.

I started with a bit of spare plastic and a broken off bit of MDF -

- spent a bit of time with a saw and a file -

- some more very careful time on the file -

- with constant fittings to check progress -

- then it was trial and error time on the printer just using stock standard MS paint -

- Then it was time to machine up the plate for the front -

- then combine the two -

- a quick paint and fit some LED's for sizing -

- then a layer of silver around the edge to make it look like aluminium facing -

- today I managed to print on a clear page to cover the top half of the face so the indicators
will light up when the smaller LED's placed behind are activated.

Now I have to make the plastic covering for the top half before getting on with the real challenge
of making the guts of it all and wiring it up.

So, thought I would post in here seeing it is intended for cockpit building;

Phase 1 of throttle quadrant, Rewired and connected potentiators and tested working in prepar3d.

Phase 2 of my throttle quadrant. Also, went out and purchased two 10 turn potentiators today for my elevator and rudder trim wheels. I have today just got my throttle quadrant back from the engineers workshop who kindly made me a moulding for it, see below. Still have to drill screw holes to fix properly and give it a paint.

More to follow as I progress...

finally got around to completing the circuit breaker panel

each breaker is connected to a momentary push button on the back which will be connected to a hagstrom encoder
card. This runs through a Y-splitter arrangement to the keyboard port so negates the need for a keyboard in the actual cockpit.

sorry it's a bit blurry - I was using a mobile phone

The blank spaces are so I can add other functions later once it is in use and I know better what I do or don't need.

Well was thinking 737-300 but I also want to be able to simulate the 172 so as I work through I am going to build a quadrant for the 172 and try and find a sweet spot for the buttons I choose. I have just ordered a controller board which has 12 buttons and already have one (kindly supplied by Jason/MetalinWood) so all up so far 24 buttons to program but need to get more toggle switches first.

Build a cockpit that you feel comfortable in , same concept with most flying all sorts very all control at your finger tips - flap level is that .. good plan not restricted

O right, the right cog is connected to the left rolling reversal and across to the lateral horizontal on the left plane connected to the vertical micro-switch and across to the elevated junction box sitting on mounts on a 10.deg.o point using gears at approx 15 TPI on thread swipe of 60 deg's smile.gif

Gear with switches to trigger gear up and down. Went for an industrial strength leaf switch (actually out of a welding machine foot pedal) for the bottom one as more force over time will be put on the down position rather than the up.

Partially assembled but good enough to test it out and it's working perfectly as planned.

I have redesigned the layout of my trim wheels, this will give me more control over the trim at arm length.

Primer coated. Hmm, I actually like the look of the gray primer, any comments?
