I know a bit late on the scene, but I remember many years ago (at least 8) going out to the airport to film some planes, I decided to go over to the aero club and was up the top waiting for a 340 to land.

A gentleman asked what I was doing, said I was waiting to film my first 340.

He said follow me, and took me out literally to the middle of one of the grass runways.

I asked him, wouldn't we get in trouble?

He advised me "If you were a terrorist you would of thrown a matress over the fence at the end of the NW runway, and gone that way, not upstairs at the aero club."

This was post 9/11 too.

Sadly viewing platforms are not the norm now, though the Perth airport has put in a beautiful viewing area at the end of the main runway, it is a real lovely spot watching the heavies come in.
When asked what I have contributed to on this earth my reply will be my daugther

Lawrence cool.gif - done that myself , And if your not sure ask at the Canterbury Aero Club for a liaison , many have the down time and love to help out as long as you can talk the talk and show a huge interest they are more than happy to accommodate .
