Wife just read out to me off Stuff that 5 people have been hurt with only one still in Hospital in a stable condition.deeknow wrote:QUOTE (deeknow @ Aug 16 2013,11:24 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Good to hear things relatively ok. Were in Ohakune on a winter holiday and as a result of the quake there's a Level 1 Alert active now for Ruapehu. The missus is spooked

I'm pretty sure that that alert has stood for a while now, noticed that a few weeks back while poking around on GeonetLast edited by lowglow on Sat Aug 17, 2013 1:32 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Glad to hear you are ok Doug. Not entirely sure if Deane is in BLN or WLG but sounds like he had been evacuated from wherever he is. Hang in there guys!
I was on the 6th floor of a 14 story building. Sure was a heck of a ride. First time I have ever been under a desk in a quake. We were under for about a minute as the building just kept swaying. All the previous shakes were fairly low key....but this one sure spooked me. Like most buildings in Wellington, all workers were sent home to allow inspections to be carried out. I flew home on my normal 6pm flight without issue. There sure has been a lot of aftershocks since, but we have not felt anything but the larger 4+ ones here in Blenheim (Renwick). I'm heading back to Welly tomorrow evening as building is still closed tomorrow.

Take care Deane , i dont envy you that 6th floor experience at all . I sometimes (most of the time) think about the quakes when on the stairs (outside) at work .... really get nervous when up on 17. Not really sure what i would do .... just ride it out i guess , not to many options.
