Hi, Anybody here use headphones and mike on a seperate sound card. i.e. Flying with Vatsim or Ivao, and using the mike to talk with tower etc, but have the flightsim noises running through speaker system? Say onboard computer sound for FSX and ????r

I understand I may need a 2nd sound card or a USB sound card to make it happen. Interested in anybodys' sound set up arrangements. (As long as it works....) rolleyes.gif

Thanks

I do use inderpendent/separate PC for comm's whiles flying but that is using an outside channel whilst FS runs on the primary , takes that problem away and it is a lot clearer but we are not connected to a fight due to this problem.

Hi Bjocque, Do you have all sounds through the USB connector to headphones or can you separate some sounds to normal speakers?

Cheers

Thanks for that, re the USB...Does your PC find it when you plug it in as a new audio device? and can you use the USB for your headphones separate from 'other' sounds, like listen to music through the speakers and have voice (phones and mike) through the headset - say on skype etc?

Get a USB headset. It will show up as a seperate sound device. Once it is there you can select things like Skype, to it while having other sounds through PC speakers. In The FSX sound options you can select teh ATC to play through them. The only problem is when you first plug them in if you are using win 7, the ywill become the default sound device, you will have to go into control panel, audio devices and reselect the sound card as main if you want it.e

Thanks, it is decided then, I will do the USB rather than a new PCI sound card.

Appreciate the info..

I would have gone the usb headset route myself bar the fact my saitek pro flight headset was already wired/cables/tidlied up with my TR5 so the little plug n play usb dongle was the cheapest/most effective scenario with me AND I can just have it tucked behind my monitor for ease of access as my PC box is about 2 metres away from my desk seat AND I couldn't really find a USB headset that was quiet as sexy as my proflight set (though razer do have a similar set out nowadaze - though 149 vs 30 bucks was a bit of a no brainer for me) picked it up for bout 30 bucks from PBTech in a sale.

I did, prior to going this route try a little cheapie media switch come hubbie thingamebobby from ebay that got here quickly but didn't really achieve what i wanted it too

as i don't really use my headset for other stuff like skype/other gaming i'm not too sure bout setting it up for them though guess just selecting the appropriate unit through Control Panel/sounds would work just as well

effectively, i would say, i've just converted my 3.5mm headset to a USB headset going this route cos i'm a cheap b*st*rd lol
