Discuss aircraft addons and repaints for Flight Simulator here

Seeking opinions on this:

The Aerospatiale SA315 "Lama" helicopter for FSX.

It seems a bit expensive for the age of the product, but looks fun.
Additionally, there are two New Zealand repaints at Aussiex for it. Thoughts from those who have it?

Thanks Splitpin

The FS Heli LamaX is really pretty good value given that you are not just buying a helicopter model.

You get a number of different models some which have simple one click sling, winch and passenger loads as well as a spray version.

The flight model and performance is pretty good and the start up and shutdown sequence is very realistic. Peter Salzberger of FS Heli has really worked at making this as realistic as possible and done a pretty credible job. Dodo Sim set the bench mark in this area and the Lama X is pretty close in many respects.

The Lama was the original "hot and high" helicopter or if you like a small helicopter with a large engine. You can land this on Mt Everest when it's light(great if you have Everest X) it is however quite slow cruising at only about 90kts

There is also included some good sceneries for Switzerland around the Raron and Zermatt/Matterhorn area (Switzerland is ideal for flight simming as the whole country is about the same size as Otago) The helipads are all at high altitude and small to test your skills.

Finally there are a number of simple Sling load/ winch missions included which are based around the Switzerland sceneries.

I have done a couple of repaints in Helicopters NZ colours which are available at Aussiex.

I recommend this helicopter as overall it is very comprehensive, well thought out and thoroughly enjoyable

Hope this helps

Decided to get it and am glad that I did! It's a very realistic helicopter! Great flight dynamics and I'm particularly happy about the realistic startup. The only thing I didn't initially care for was the usage of the stock com/nav and transponder in the VC, but I easily swapped them with the ones from the Carenado Cessna 185 and everything looks fantastic!

I also think I've killed way too many people on the sling missions! I apparently need more practice with my precision hover skills, though it is somewhat amusing to see the poor guy on the end of the line go flying off into the mountains.

Now I just need to figure out how the paint kit is mapped any maybe do a few liveries.

Sorry to say I found the paintkit is a bit of a nightmare, every rivet has it's own photoshop layer, but still as I have proven not impossible but probably the reason there are not many paints out there.

Still glad you enjoy it.
