Here I go

A forum specifically to discuss the latest and greatest of all flight simulators

Postby realjumper » Tue May 14, 2013 11:39 pm

I have a basic install done now....with SP1 and SP2. The Sidewinder is working, not 100% but I'll look at that over the next few days. I think I'm going to stick with this install for now, just a basic setup, and I'll go through the flying school lessons and get back in the hang of it all. I can upgrade the scenery, aircraft, software and hardware as I need to.

So thanks for the help....I'm starting right at the very beginning, so I have a long way to go.... smile.gif

Good luck with your mission cool.gif , the good thing is you have plenty of impressive freewares to add to before the need to buy paywares only to test your system out but keeping everything simple is this for example the default Goose given a makeover - http://aussiex.org/forum/index.php?/files/...e-hd-redux-120/

IFR for RJ .. when you get there .. don't worry if they send you off the meandering track .. think the built in ATC cant figure out were they want ya then when you approach the airport there is someone directly in front ya rolleyes.gif

Id just jump in the deep end .... hells can't kill ya unsure.gif ..... or can it laugh.gif

So far so good on the missions, but I'm not really learning what I want to learn....soooo....I have gone back to the C172 and I'm learning the VOR navigation technique which is more interesting to me. I'm sure you all know this already, but there's a great resource for charts and airport info at: http://skyvector.com/ , it's very useful.

So that's me for a while, until I figure this navigation out. Mind you, I did like flying the Beaver.....it brought back memories of making many skydives from a DH Beaver, although not with floats.......

That is the only other best choice , think the Goose and the Beaver would be the only defaults i'd ever use ohmy.gif

I recall a group of us skydivers making the first jump of the day, and in the Beaver was also 2 tandems. During the stationary run up in the morning, the Beaver coughed and spat at close to full power, so the pilot let it idle for a while and repeated the run up. The cough and spit was still there, so we took a C206 and a C182 instead. Later the Beaver was back in commission after the pilot had heated and dyed the damp from the magneto's with his wife's hair dryer.....hee hee hee.....loved that aircraft.

I made a night flight from Palmy to Wellington last night in the 172, and all went well. Today I went from Palmy to Napier but I landed about 100 meters too soon.....doh! Both flights were VOR......the weather was clear, but I'm happy with the progress so far. One question popped into my mind......when I arrive in the vicinity if the airport, I do the tradition downwind, base, final approach pattern, and I land.....lol.....I never ask anyone if I can land, or which runway is in use....I just land!!

Am I supposed to contact the tower?...and if so, how?

RJ , just simply press the button above your TAB key , all the options pop up there .. you can contact any tower from 30 miles out .
