This morning i was asked by one of the younger members of my ever changing household "If Japan makes a war with Korea... what should i do " ..... jeezz ...its 0800 , Im old .... still asleep ,but .... you cant write if off.
So i told her .... its not going to happen (says me ... hopefully) and "if" something happens ...Japan has ways to deal with it (these kids no nothing)
It set the tone for my whole day ..... when they (flatmates) came home tonight , i sat them down in front of CNN ... and said "watch" .... if you dont understand ... call your parents... I cant be responsible for global events , or advise on what to do unsure.gif

I can , however comment with some authority on how people in that region are feeling.
I have spent the the last 13 or so years living with people (very intelligent people) from Japan, China, Taiwan, Korea ..... knowing that none of them will see this .... i can say, the one to watch is Japan.

They are feeling very nationalistic at the moment , they have little time for Korea (north or South) and if anything were to happen, they wont wait for the "world police" to say go ... they will go anyway. (Read the japanese blogs ) not the cr@p we are fed by the news robots.

It could just be the annual postering of a nation led by the worst haircut in the world ..... or it could be more.

Forget the middle east, those idiots have been at it for thousands of years , it seems the more sand there is , the less brain cells..... bs.

One political commentator literary said they are jousting for food , money and world to notice them .... they doing a bloody great job at it .. as he pointed out last was instead of just saying it , they really go ahead and move there military hardware ... get one nutter in control ... who's to say one is not the behind firing panel on those SA-12 Scaleboards .. least that is what they looked like , range approx 500 mile (800 km) , similar to a Scud-B but more reliable .

Do Japan not have a "defence force"? Would they be equipped to go to war with another country? I'm not sure on all this but after WW2 I believe would they not have some forms of limitation on their armed forces?
Interesting to hear from locals what they think is going on.
I doubt anything will come of all this. It's a great way for young Mr Kim to stir some national pride and maintain his loyal fan base smile.gif He's surely not stupid enough to take on the USA, despite what he might speak publically.

Yes, they have a very good defence force .. called the SELF defence in keeping with understandable the history , there conventional armed forces are very up to-date and modern .

The max range of the N/korean missile .. being tactical type can target Southern Island s in Japan .. Osaka and Nagoya being the prime populus targets

Where's the CIA when you need them? I suppose a black op is out of the question, they'd still be blamed even if somebody else knocked this clown off.

Japan by their own constitution can't attack other countries. Hence why they have a "self" defence force.

What will likely start it is a misunderstanding between both sides. Or some Northern general mistakenly fires something into the south. SK to respond then the U.S.A joins along with N.A.T.O and the other country's with a defense agreement with the U.S.A (eg. ANZUS the treaty between Australia New Zealand and United States for mutual support in a war). Then you'll see the North probably nuke Japan since there best missiles can only reach Tokyo. Then america might nuke the North.

ANZUS will have little to do with it- what would draw us in is the fact it was a UN action from the start- and still is.

Thats true J7G ..... but if they feel threatened they will defend "themselves" Im reading blogs and news items from Japan all day, and they wont mess around this time.
There's a whole new feel in Japan at the moment (so im told) , just hope it wont come to much .

They would have to change their constitution. IIRC they can't even attempt pre-emptive attacks- only respond to actual physical attacks not just threats. I might be wrong there, though.

Your Right J7.... but at the moment " actual physical attack " is a definition they will call .
In the past , the north koreans have provided a certain amount of information about the track the "test' will take ..... but not this time, all communication is cut.
So , as i read it , if anything flys over Japan , they will take it out ... in self defense.

Just fortunate they don't have a basket of nuke but fact is the Patriot is a anti aircraft missile system , and found its ability in the fist gulf war but scuds still got thru ... worst the N/korean missiles are on those very hard to detect on the vehicles ... fire and run ... again recall the problem in the gulf and they were almost in the open ... I'd say any more threats target the static sites with cruise missile and quick pre-empt and take out these prime movers .

Well lets not worry because nothing can be accomplished and plus who would nuke or bomb New Zealand we are kinda isolationists. But it is very likely to happen and lets just hope they don't use Nukes or dirty bombs, about dirty bombs they should go to behavior classes there creeps and so dirty.

But on a more serous note i believe that if a war starts the Japanese will get nuked or attacked. Great site for latest defense news unrelated defensetalk.com
And a quote DON'T PANIC and if you dont get the referance your dead to me.
