One of those 45 would be me, because I pop in and out all day, but only login if I am going to post something - like this nice pic wink.gif

'Propliner' is actually short for 'Proper airliner, with big rumbly radials'

My initial reaction was 'be careful what you wish for', but I'll forgo my usual rant at this time of the year (daylight saving).

I'm taking advantage of all the time I can get with my family at the moment, with my son and his wife going back to Colombia at the end of the week, so I'll probably be back 'living' here next week.

I've said before, though, that since our last forum 'cookie switch' not many members have taken advantage of the ability to stay logged in, which does give a skewed view of who's actively involved on the forum.

I would usually show up as one of the guests, mainly as I can view images properly on the mobile where as on the desktop I have to have the images turned off (due to bandwiith etc)!

As I am always opening additional Forum Browsers (logged in) on my various Favourite Sites, resulting in multiple browsers on my Desktop, or in the Task Bar......

...does anyone know if we still appear current/live (logged on) on all the other browsers running in the background which we are not currently viewing?

..or do we only appear live when we actually "open" (bring to the foreground), one of the Forum Browsers....

..know what I mean?

Now that the weather is warming up slightly, the grass in my back garden needs; "browsing"... rolleyes.gif ...!

..'trubble with that idea, Ian... unsure.gif ....

..there's nowhere for the water to soak away when it rains...

...(a bit like wooden garden Patios)... blink.gif ...!

A big source of flooding!

Problem I have at the mo....with my petrol Mower laid-up for the Winter...the old petrol in the tank will no longer fire up...so I have to tip the mower upside down to drain the old petrol out and replenish it!...then all the crankcase oil runs into the cylinder head via the push-rod tubes...and then it will never start!

Sucking the petrol out with a tube, is not something I enjoy..!

But I do like my grass lawn when the job is done!...I call is my Park...and charge visitors an entrance fee...!

Paul....Mr Green Fingers... biggrin.gif ...!

The forum doesn't really know whether you are viewing it or not, until you click on something. I think the notifications on the front page and individual threads are simply based on time -- the front page says 'active in the past 20 minutes', so I assume that after 20 minutes without activity it'll assume you are 'offline', unless you actually log out. At this point it'll log you out, which is why it is very, very useful to click the button which allows you to be logged in automatically (using a cookie.)

I think that part of the problem why so many members don't use this method any more (it used to be a lot more common) is that if the site required a new cookie for any reason, then everyone would need to login again, which means remembering a password which you might not have used for years. So rather than be in this position, a lot of people just get into the habit of logging in manually. This may seem like a good idea, unless you rely on your browser to keep track of your password -- in this case, you are still liable to lose the password if you have browser problems.

So for me the best solution is to have a complex password which I store 'offline' (ok, in a notebook), enter it once and have the forum 'remember me'. So in the rare event of having to re-enter my password, I just have to look in my notebook. (in the past I stored these in my head, but that doesn't work as well as it used to...)

Of course that won't work if people have access to your computer, and may mess with you. Hopefully that's not all that common, is it? I share my computer with others, but I wouldn't imagine that they'd want to spoof me on NZFF.

I always remain automatically logged in on all my Favourite Sites..with my name and password always remembered.

I also have ALL my various Site details, names, passwords, registration details for all my Payware, everything I need to know, written down in my little note book for instant access! 23+ years of Internet details!

...never save any important info to Hard Drives, Floppy Drives, CD's, etc...they WILL go pear-shaped!

...and trusting to (my) memory is a total waste of time!

I just hope the Mice don't get to chew my little note book!

Paul... laugh.gif ...!
