Ohakea 2013

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby Kahu » Mon Mar 18, 2013 8:11 pm

These following images are showing the new static objects.
This scenery is more of a concept Ohakea, what we thought it would of looked like today before it was hit hard by Hurricane Helen C.
You will be able to customize this scenery so you can easily remove objects or themes you don't want.

The final release will be VLC and NZNI compatible.

Still a bit of fine tuning and testing to go, but should have a new home for those military jet guys soon biggrin.gif

For those of you interested in Ohakea, what would you prefer to see were the museum is located. A modern glass museum fulled with static RNZAF planes as proposed HERE or an open hangar again filled with static planes that you can taxi out of,
or a building similar to what is already here like this

The only issue with the above pic is I dont have any object similar to this that I can use yet

It looks like the area where the museum is located is under major development with new buildings. If you view on google earth.

I was more thinking about the museum area for the use in flightsim, with an area to start in to fly warbirds from.

I should check the size of the area .. surely could not handle 3plus like previous MPs unsure.gif

I drove past OH last weekend, and didn't notice any construction going on...If you are talking about the area opposite the Police weighbridge on the SW side of SH1 that's been like that since the construction of the NH-90 hangers I think.

I'm with Ian on the "don't put the museum in" if it doesn't exist.

Knowing how quickly defence spends money I wouldn't be surprised if even if the museum / viewing area get approved it might be built in time to appear in FS 2018 or 2020.

On another note the update looks good - can't wait

Yes

RNZAF personnel, particularly those based at Ohakea or who have visited it recently, would have noticed the ‘sprouting’ from the ground of several concrete columns that will form the superstructure of the new No 3 Squadron building. This building alone will be about 8,700 m2 (by comparison the existing concrete hangar that No 3 Squadron currently resides in is about 5,500 m2).[/quote] RNZAF News Sep 2009

Construction 2009

Higgins Site closest photo I could find to the completed hanger, I think it won some award for green design, but can't find anything on the net with a quick google.
