Sunday Night Ops
Auckland and Palmerston North
Sunday 03rd March 2013 1900-2230 NZDT / 1700-2030 AEDT / 0600-0930 UTC

This week we focus our attention on one of the busiest regional airports in the North Island - Palmerston North - with return service to and from Auckland.

Air New Zealand alone flies more than fifteen flights between these two airports daily using a combination of ATR-72 and Dash-8 aircraft, however B737 and A320 aircraft are also used during periods of high demand.

When the wind is from the west, the proximity of the Tararua Ranges beneath the approach to runway 25 provide an added challenge to pilots and controllers alike.

Pilots should start at either airport and aim to fly at least one full round trip between the two.

Flight time between these two airports is approximately 45 minutes, so pilots should aim to fly at least one full round trip and keep the controller teams on their toes.

Flight Routes
  • Auckland to Palmerston North: (AAPM1) AA H211 HN H325 PM
  • Palmerston North to Auckland: (PMAA1) PM H325 TM H182 AA
