I am trying hard to like ORBX more than VLC but there is something about VLC catching my eye , maybe it looks more real ?
I have to check and see if the airfield packs payware or freeware.... hmm

I depends on the regions you fly in , Canterbury in VLC was very disappointing due to controlled paddock texture and have defined borders to each , what the biggest let down was the generated tree line so predominate through the area , flight real time over it and sticks out like.... you fly it real time you will no what i mean but you go in some areas and VLC shines , West coast example . or the little addon airfields

Is there any regular updates to fix these issues ? Or it was one off release ? I want to see if its worth $65 or better invest it in something else..

VLC airfields on the VLC website are all free.

Here's an airport comparison, although this is very tongue-in-cheek, so understand that this doesn't represent the overall quality of Orbx or VLC, before you scroll down to view the comparison:)

This is Hokitika Airport, although the VLC version is not yet available, it'll be in the next South Island update pack.....

First up, here's a real photo of the Aeroclub:

It gos both ways , for example photo-real FOXPINE for VLC and course many other scenery from RealNZ to Robins many freeware and course one i have posted , The you go to ORBX , i only need to flatten bits and pieces altho working fine currently and you have that FOXPINE for the big 'O' , the default airports do get a good scrubbing with extras .

Timmo has an entire series and still working on more , course you can add his photoreal , but that also works in ORBX , ... Then you have Mike at FS-CREATIONS.org and his recent developments , in New Zealand currently at the moment the world so to speak is your Oyster ! cool.gif

Thanks a lot for the pics. As long as there are improvements and updates (free) available on VLC to fix things, I am happy with that. Is there any known conflict or issues known related VLC with any add-ons or with FSX in general?

VLC is straight out of the box go and fly , all small issue and problems have been ironed out , there will be more but that's part and parcel of scenery design .... hive of activity on all fronts so you can't go wrong on any or both sides.

I know Robin is being tongue-in-cheek, but one should note however that that is a comparison of a custom modeled airport -vs- an 'enhanced' Orbx default airport that is made using generic objects, so it is a somewhat slanted comparison

ORBX Region packs do not custom model airports as it is a Landscape/Terrain product, we merely enhance the airports within the region as it detracts from the immersion to have a 'default' airport poke you in the eye every few kilometers

In other words the Orbx regionpacks are a 'Full-Terrain-eXperience' in that they contain..in a single package....everything you need to fly and explore, of course you can add extra elements like custom airports and the like as you please

Cheers
Tim

Ben , if Tim really pulls a Rabbit out off his Warren of tricks and Rob super-cedes the ORBX texture , i'm going to need it , still require it for testing and other data , If it is outdated to my requirements I don't sell it , i give it away with licence , guess that makes you first inline then smile.gif

That would be so cool, though I would still like to contribute to your cost of purchasing it :-) I don't mind paying for it

I agree Ian - and I've been watching this thread with interest. Thanks go to Rob for your objective arguments and screenshot comparisons. I already have VLC and I've decided that is where I'll be staying. With the continued support of the developers and local scenery makers you can't go wrong. For me accuracy is ultimately the deciding factor - the free airport updates another selling point.

Kind regards to all,

VLC is a landclass come scenery and REX is a weather engine , it dose not matter which way round you install those programs .
