Just got a new Kindle and was searching through the 100's of aircraft titles available and was wonder if there is a good read any one has come across or a biography style title any one recommends

Cheers
Gavin

PS. this device is brilliant, just transferred my flight sim charts and docs onto it to use while simming.

Here's some, all I highly recommend, great reads:

Vipers in the Storm - Keith Rosenkranz - F16 pilot in Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

So You Want to be a Ferry Pilot - Spike Nasmyth - Interesting stories, quite humorous, this guy sure enjoys a drink

When Penguins Flew and Water Burned - Jim Clonts - Really good book about B-52 flying from the nav/weps perspective, some desert storm missions

Snowbird, The Rise and Fall of a Medellin Drug Pilot - William Norris - Quite a fascinating if not frustrating read, not written by a pilot but still interesting

A Lonely Kind of War - Marshall Harrison - Excellent read about FAC's in Vietnam flying the Bronco. Real hero's these guys

A Hundred Feet Over Hell - Jim Hooper - Another excellent FAC book about flying the Bird Dog.

Flying the SR-71 Blackbird - Richard H. Graham - Detailed description of flying the SR-71 on an operation with lots of background info. Very cool.

Chickenhawk by Robert Mason - a narrative of his experiences as a UH-1 Iroquois helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War. The book chronicles his enlistment, flight training, deployment to and experiences in Vietnam, and his experiences after returning from the war. I read it in my early years in the Air Force. It was practically a compulsory read at 3 Sqn I believe !!

Cripes, it must be a goodie .... "More than half a million copies of Chickenhawk have been sold since it was first published in 1983." and going cheap at 12 bucks .

'Forever flying' by Bob Hoover is a great read. He was meant to be the first man to break the speed of sound instead of his best mate Chuck Yeager.....but he was a a very naughty boy smile.gif

Remember the 50-50-90 rule. Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong!

Wicked thanks for that, I thought I had already read a lot and I haven't come across any of these titles yet. I think for starters I'll pick books of the Aircraft I fly the most in Flight Sim, then work my way through the above titles.

Starting with the B-52 and Bronco.

Just downloaded "We Were Crewdogs" for $3.00, looks really interesting,
also have an interest in odd WW2 Lufftwaffe aircraft titles like the Horten 229 etc

Sounds good, might be coming down your way soon.
My book shelf mainly consists of aviation books published between 1930-1960, I love those older style books with the art pics of those classic aircraft.
