Best FSX Airbus?

Discuss aircraft addons and repaints for Flight Simulator here

Postby Adamski » Tue Jul 17, 2012 2:28 pm

I've totally gorged myself on the PMDG B737NGX (which I think is THE BEST civil jet add-on for FSX). So much so, that I'm thinking of redressing the balance with an AIRBUS add-on.

Over the years, I've had all sorts - from many different producers (CLS, Abacus, Justflight, Wilco etc.) ... but they're all pretty OLD now and looking pretty shabby when compared to the excellent PMDG 737 offering.

So ... what's the best *current* AIRBUS add-on? I mean a *fully-featured* aircraft, with decent CDU etc. - not a "cut down" or "simplified" model.

Before anyone beats me with a stick, I'm going to say Aerosofts Airbus X is good fun and the v,c is gorgeous and if you wait a little longer the extended version will be out. With PMDG's 737, will the auto pilot system accept in any way an FSX flight plan like the JS4100? or does it require complete manual waypoint input itno the FMC for NZ destinations like is needed in other advanced airliners in the past?

Looks good ... but not out yet! ... [what's the best *current* AIRBUS] laugh.gif

EDIT: I just trawled through their forums. It could be worth holding off with my credit card till this one comes out!

The Aerosoft one is probably the only one I *didn't* buy! Drat. I wonder how it compares with the Wilco one ... which I do have.

As far as the PMDG 737 goes - no, you can't import an FSX plan into the CDU. I use the excellent (paid-up) vRoute to create a decent base flight plan, which I export as an FSX plan and then a PMDG *.rte one. The advantage of using vRoute is that I can also work out my fuel settings.

Ian ... please winkyy.gif ... I'm really not interested in a Boeing/Airbus pi**ing contest! I just want to hear opinions on the current FSX offerings for the Airbus [sp].

I brought the AirbusX and really was so disappointed .. it really is BUST with a Air in front of it , you can approach a runway but has this horrible sink and uncontrolled sink - you hit the deck like no control at all ... the glammour off it being a great VC in it - i'll wait for a patch .. we will stay with PMDG currently - or ...

I dunno, there's you mentioning parts of the female anatomy all the time ... Marty keeps bringing up their containers ... and I thought this was a *family* board laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

I hear what you're saying about the Aerosoft Airbus (and I think you're not the only one to point out its failings). I too wonder whether a systems patch/upgrade would work. Silk purses and sows' ears spring to mind.

So ... I may as well just re-install my old Wilco one and play with that till the FSLabs one comes out <???>.

Adam, stick with the Wilco mate, systems wise it still leads the pack there is no doubt about that.

Sure the Aerosoft bus might look pretty but its not up to scratch systems wise, there is however a patch about to come out for it which might make the difference, you should wait till that comes out.

And to be really sure as mentioend already you should wait for the FSLabs bus as that appears to show the most promise.

Havn't had that problem to date but I have only landed ILS approaches. I have noticed the cdu seems to calculate approach speeds that are borderline stalling. I usualy overwrite them.

Andrew , maybe worth trying a standard hands on approach without the flight computer running .. I brought this on the understanding and following recommendations , most agreed all have the same problem , course other glitchers .

http://www.virtual-dispatch.net/ will export flight plans in .rt2 format for the PMDG series of planes for free (unlike vroute which only export to PMDG from the pay version). So you can find your route at simroutes, routefinder, (or free vroute), and import to virtual dispatch before exporting to PMDG. Easy enough. But yeah, I just use the payware vroute myself.

Thanks for the link to the coming A320. Might have to learn to fly one one day since they cruise the domestic routes now days.

Ian, try enabling the Autopilot, then turn it off while on approach.

I'd wait for the FSLabs though, as everyone's suggesting.

Should'nt have ta do that .. but generally i'm on hands on approach ... you don't auto pilot a plane to the ground .. your surpose to fly it to the ground ... course .. ARBUST as in real life has the habit to do exactly what the sim dose so i should not complain rolleyes.gif

Here's my OLD Wilco A320 - re-installed - in ANZ colours. It's not too bad ... for its age!

Just to keep Ian happy, I also reinstalled my OLD Wilco B777 - just so I can compare it with the "ongoing" CS one winkyy.gif
