Anyone know if it is possible to add the OAT to the TextInfo strings, reason asking is as of late some plane devs seem to think its a great idea to leave out the OAT gauge in the VC, as ya know without that it is impossible navigate by steam.

it is possible to add gauges to panel and change out a gauge in the VC by opening up the panel CFG of aircraft and swapping the text strings if this is what you mean .
Exsample:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\Douglas_DC3\panel

the area in RED is the VC part were you change the name of the gauge {gauge12=Douglas_DC3!altimeter, 118, 382, 116, 118} leave the numbers as thats location on the panel
just copy paste the text change gauge from another aircraft panel and save a copy for backup etc ..

let me know if im off the mark here i may not of understood the question exactly ..

Hey thx for the post Mike, was more after getting the OAT into the Shift Z textinfo, gauge swapping is handy but only when 3d gauges aint used.
It bugs me how a simple yet one of the most absolute essential navigational items can be left out of so many "Realistic and tested by real pilots" VC's.
