Copyright is a funny thing.
A friend of mine recently discovered that a photograph that they had put on the Internet stating also that it was copyrighted had infect been stolen and published in an Australian publication. He approached the publication and pointed out that they were in breach of copyright, and promptly received a rude and straight to the point reply back from the publisher, basically sod off. My friend decided to seek legal advice and was told that once an item is placed on the Internet any copyright has been forfeited and it becomes public domain, even if it states that it is copywitten , and that anyone may do as they please with it.
Not happy with this he decided to look into it further and was surprised to find that it was in fact law and the only way around it is not to put anything you do not want others to use for them selves on the Internet. This only applies to items put on the Internet.
I must also point out that he also decided to take things further and threatened the publisher with legal action, this turned into a huge s**t fight amongst a lot of people and the outcome he lost the case.
