Godzone/Real NZ Compatibility

The official REAL NZ support forum

Hi,

while I live in Europe, I own quite a lot of NZ sceneries. These include ORBX NZSI, VLC, VLC add-on airports, most (may be all?) of the Godzone/RNZ FSX sceneries. After installing NZSI I am a bit lost with compatibility. As a start, I deactivated all the South Island stuff except NZSI and VLC (sitting at a lower scenery level). Essentially I am left with NZSI for the South Island + VLC/Real NZ (Auckland, Wellington etc.) for the North Island. Many users in this forum might have a similar configuration. As far as I can judge, it works pretty well, in general.

Now I would try to re-add some of the former SI sceneries, notably the Godzone packages (Marlborough...). I understand that Nelson got a compatibility patch which I will try. I am pretty much lost which of the other SI sceneries are compatible/can be made compatible/make sense to use with ORBX NZSI, though. I know, there are a few scattered hints in the forum, however I lack a general plot + add my limited knowledge of NZ geography which makes it even harder to get a survey.

Perhaps, some good soul in this forum might compile a list for people like me?

The proper place to ask would certainly be the ORBX compatibility forum. However, the answer - or even the question - might contain a few words Mr. Venema doesn't like, thus let me ask it here.

Thanks for any hand
Michael

Hi Michael
We are trying to get a base set on elevations , this will cover base scenery proven so one works with the other , we worked together .... , since ORBX walked in the door and dictated how New Zealand elevation should due to push push type attitude , we now have to look at each airport/field .. can now see some lite but takes time , worst you need the other Island done so can build a base package . ( It would have been easier if one party looked at how prolific NZ scenery was .. but ) , VLC did it in one .. ORBX in two , no difference in areas/Islands only thing i give credit for the ORBX product is the textures.

There is a patch for one RealNZ airport - Nelson and FS-Creations has a set that covers four Southern fields and the Chatham Islands and many other getting worked on , other fix's are out there but in my mind not the best because its manual adjustment , and if you have payed for a product a fix can't /won't be too far away .

Yes, Orbx have already made it clear that they won't accept compatibility queries for Real NZ/NZSI. I'd rather deal with these myself, anyway.

There's some compatibility info on my site here. I recommend that you wait for the 'official' patches, otherwise you'll have a bit more work to do to get the patches to work properly.

Wanaka and Tekapo are almost ready to go, but I did take the opportunity to tidy up some issues with Wanaka. I also had to look at some issues with the fact that Orbx haven't supplied any parking at Wanaka, and therefore they haven't sent any traffic there, so even if I add plenty of parking, it still doesn't get any traffic. I've reverted to Ultimate Traffic, but this will always be an issue for those who use the supplied Orbx traffic.

They have included plenty of static aircraft, and I've tried to retain this where I can.

I'm aware that this is taking some time, but with a couple of weeks off over new year, and trying to stick to a schedule for the new NZWN, it is going to take a bit more time for Omaka and Woodbourne.

Thanks to all who replied so far, including dbcunnz via PM. Given the situation, I think I'll stick to what is available at present (including the 4 airports on fscreations) and wait for more official patches to come.

I guess the VLC Sound Island package is not (and will not be) compatible.

Robin you're working on a New Rendition of Wellington? That's the first I read on this. The present version is already one of my favorite places, so I am really looking forward to it. Count ma as a potential buyer.

Kind regards, Michael

I have mentioned this, but I tend to keep all projects pretty much under wraps now, life is more peaceful that way...
This will be after the FTX North Island is released, so that I get the chance to iron out compatibility first.
This is the ideal time for a new Wellington, with things like GSX, the original Real NZ Wellington was released too soon to take advantage of all the nice things we've seen lately, so it'll be nice to include animated gates etc, not to mention the Rock, now that's been a modelling challenge.

I re-added Nelson tonight including the update plus the four Fs-Creations airports (Milford Sound is terrific), works all fine, as far as I can judge.

One aspect I absolutely love, all NZ Scenery I own - NZSI, VLC, RealNZ, and Fs-Creations - is quite framerate friendly. I compare this with aerosoft's VFR Germany series + airports. While I can fly over Auckland quite well with good framerates, I always have to take sliders back over downtown Munich (both being cities of comparable size). I have several German airports comparable (in rendition quality and size) to Nelson, having to struggle with the same problem.

Keep on the good work, Michael
